Need help on what kind of universal remote to buy!

Hi:

I just received a used Sanyo TV model no:
DS25320 with no remote. The TV is stuck on the blue Video screen...I
think I need a remote in order to change the channel - by pressing
"input".  Does anyone here know what I need in terms of a
universal remote?  Will any universal remote work?

Thanks for your help!!

Kim771, I'm sorry to tell you

Kim771, I'm sorry to tell you, that you cannot use almost all of the universal remotes to change anything on the TV set except the power, volume and channel Up and Down. You can however purchase a original replacement remote for this set that would make it fully functional, and its a little cheaper then buying a new TV set. it is available at this link :
http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servle... Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out.

Thanks for your response!

Thanks for your response!

<>So I can't do anything without the
actual remote for the TV?  What if I changed the channel using the
universal remote?   If it lets me change the channel on the
TV, can't I get it off the  "Video" mode this way...or will it
just not respond?

<> Thanks  again!!!

It simply wont respond.  You

It simply wont respond.  You may be able to find a freind or someone who has a Sanyo TV set, and they might just let you borrow their remote control so you can get it off of video mode.

I'm one of those stubborn

I'm one of those stubborn people...I went out and bought a universal
remote against your advise and it didn't work.  Is there any way
that you know of that I can keep the TV in Video mode and somehow run
my cable box through either a DVD or a VCR and have the cable channels
come through?  I know it's a longshot and I will probably have to
buy the replacement remote...but I thought maybe in the meantime I can
rig something up?

Any help is VERY appreciated!!!!

Larry Dillon
Sure, simply run the Video

Sure, simply run the Video outputs from the VCR or DVD recorder,to the video inputs of the TV set. Then hook up the cable line or the box to the antenna input of the VCR or DVD recorder. Turn on the VCR and cable box and the YV set. Put the VCR on what ever channel the output of the cable box is, some areas its channel three, some areas its channel four. If its straight cable, make sure you do a tuner search to find all of the channels.

Thanks!!!  I am going to try

Thanks!!!  I am going to try it tonite when I get home!  I
need to have SOME TV until I can get the remote!!  Thanks again

I am unable to get the TV channels to play at all when
I hook it up to the VCR.  I tried to hook it up like you
said...  It's almost like the TV is "locked" or something...all I
keep getting on the TV is the blue screen with Video mode displayed...I
have come to the resolution that I have to pay $ 40 for a new
remote.  I'm just worried that once I get the remote it still
won't  work!!

Do you have any ideas why I can't get my cable TV to play through the VCR?  Is it because the TV is in Video mode?

<>Thanks so much for your help - if all else fails I will buy the remote...

Kim771
I forgot to mention that I

I forgot to mention that I have Digital Cable - not sure if that makes a difference!  Thanks!

Larry Dillon
No it should not make a

No it should not make a differance what type of cable you have.  make sure your using the Video outputs and audio outputs of the VCR to the video inputs of the TV set.  Make sure the VCR is on and the TV VCR switch is set to VCR, and make sure the VCR is set to the proper channel that the Rf output of the cable works throgh, or use the cable box video outputs to the VCR video and audio inputs.  it really should work this way.

Kim771
I will try it again tonight

I will try it again tonight after work and I will let you know in the
morning.  I really appreciate your help - and I like your avatar
by the way!  Thanks again.

Kim771
Well it didn't work...I tried

Well it didn't work...I tried to hook up the cable through the VCR - I couldn't change the channels on the VCR.

<> I guess will buy the replacement remote! I don't know what else to do.   Thanks for your help...

Larry Dillon
ok lets see what type of VCR

ok lets see what type of VCR and model number is it,  This should work on the VCR, maybe the VCR needs adjusting or tuning now.

Kim771
I'll have to check the name

I'll have to check the name and model number - I don't even know
what brand it is!  Do you think it would be easier to try this on
my DVD player???

 Thanks

Larry Dillon
No because only a DVD

No because only a DVD recorder will have a built in tuner. Just like a VCR has a buiilt in tuner, unless it is just a player.

Kim771
It's weird - It just seems

It's weird - It just seems like the TV itself is "locked" on the Video
mode only when I try to hook cable up to it..  When I hooked up
the VCR through the cable, the TV nor VCR didn't respond - it is almost
like the TV "overrides" the VCR tuner...if that makes sense!  I'm
still not sure if I want to spend $50 to get a new remote...if it was
guaranteed to work I would do it, but I'm not sure if remotes.com has a
refund policy!  Thanks !!!

Larry Dillon
I'm sorry but you said hook

I'm sorry but you said hook the VCR through the cable, you are suppose to hook up the OUTPUT of the cable box, that would normally go to the TV set to the RF in or antenna input of the VCR, then the VCR gets tuned to the channel you would use the TV set for to get in the cable.  Are you using Video outputs from the cable box to the video inputs to the VCR?   You can bypass the VCR tuner and use the cable that way also but you may need the VCR remote to switch the tuner to the auxillery input.  This is a VIDEO recorder correct?  Not just a player?   Take the Video out of the VCR to the Video input of the TV set.  Play a tape to see if the video recorder is working on the TV set.  If its not, the Video input of the TV set is not working.  Remember the Video output of the VCR is connected to the VIDEO input on the TV set.  If you do get a picture from the VCR when its playing a tape, we are half way there.  We will need to figure out why the Cable is not running through the VCR.  Lets see if you first get a picture when you hookup like I said and play a tape.

Kim771
Thanks for the response - I

Thanks for the response - I am going to double check everything and try it again following your instructions.

<> Question: If the Video input is NOT working, is the TV worth keeping?

<> The VCR does
work through the TV without the Cable being hooked up...so I can watch
videos (and DVD's when I hook up the player) directly through the
TV.

Another question:  How do I tune the channels on the VCR?

<> I
really appreciate your time.  I'll try everything over the weekend
and will let you know what happens!!  Thank you again!!
