mitsubishi static picture

I have a mitsubishi av-60609 and I dont get anything but static with cable, xbox and dvd. it started out It would be static for 10 min and took longer to warm up as time went on . now it stays a static (snow like) picture all the time. could this be a tuner problem?

Shagwire, it certainly could

Shagwire, it certainly could be a tuner problem, but could also be a power supply problem feeding the tuner assembly.  Best thing to do would be to get a manual for the set, and upon starting up the TV set make sure you have all the proper voltages such as the -33 volts   on the tuner, if its lower then 25 volts find out why.  if you get a schematic and send me the tuning circuit portion( I will leave you an Email addy if you do get one) I will talk you through this repair.  Sometimes though you can have all the voltages and it still not be the tuner.  But we shall see.  Good Luck and please let us know if you need any ferther assistance and how you made out with this repair.

larry thanks for taking the

larry thanks for taking the time to post. I found out that on this tv the pnp works, and you can get a station or two on normal tuner. I also found out that these tv's also have been known for bad caps in the tuner and pnp module. I'll try to get to this tv this week, and see what I can find for schematic. I didnt even think about the power supply thanks larry. and what are your thought's of the pnp moudle being a problem?

RE: Shagwire

Mits TVs are known for problems within hteir tuners and PIP modules.  Most often, the durface mounted caps leak causing shorts or just eating away the traces on the boards.  It is a bit unusual for this to happen to a new set though.  Do a visual check of hte boards for any leaky caps.
