Two year old Sony shuts down after brief blast of high voltage and sound. Push power button twice and process repeats. After shutdown, get five blinks from standby LED. Do not have a schematic. Have only recently discovered this site. Impressed with troubleshooting advice. Any suggestions? C-nut
When did this problem start?
Did you have any recent outages of power in your area or home? Not to long ago i had a power outage and when the TV booted back up it blew out a circut on the board.
If any of these simple answers dont suit you then you should take your TV to a prefestional repairmen and have him diagnose and solve the problems.
Good luck
5 blinks indicates a problem with the AKB circuitry. This involves the CRT drive circuits or possibly even the CRT itself. Because of the nature of difficulty in correctly servicing those circuits you're better off calling in a tech on this one.
I failed to mention that I have almost 40 years of electronic servicing. Had to back away because of vision problems. Now that I have normal vision, I am dusting off some sets and equipment and will become somewhat active again. Thanks for the suggestion that I see a pro. Still need some clues if they are outthere.
