Hello,
I've had my JVC TV for close to 5 years. Recently I've been seeing more RED showing through (Only on the left side). Local repairman says $400.00 to repair my problem. Is their a power supply or some conversion kit that i can purchase and install myself?? Does anyone have PN#'s or purchase locations??
Please help!!
Anthony
Anthony, The fact that you have a good picture and red on one side is a common problem with all tv sets. Its a capacitor in the screen drive circuit or in the sweep power supply. This is not a job for the untrained user or person to try to fix, as you need a meter called an ESR capacitor meter to correctly find the bad capacitors. i suggest you get another estimate as this one seems a bit high. Good Luck, and please let us know how you make out with this repair.
They said its a conversion kit that's needed. Then the TV needs to be adjusted. If this is true, how long should it take to repair?? ZNAd about how much will it cost. (I do understand labor rates vary from place to place.)
Thanks for the info.
Anthony
Oh, Now I see Anthony, There are Two IC's that need to be replaced. They are the convergence IC's. I dont know of any kit for this problem, just the IC's. They are stand up STK type IC's that performs the vertical and horizontal sweep correction on the deflection yolks. $400.00 for a repair such as this, in my opinion, is a bit steep. I would ask around at other repair shops also. If you get a couple of others to take the set into the shop yourself, you can probably save a hundred bucks or so. Unless the repairman was going to do this repair in the home, then I would say the price is way to high.
