distorted images

hi, i have a toshiba tv model# cf2055a that my  10 y/o son uses for his games. recently the images on screen have become a liitle distorted, the characters bodies are  a little off, the heads are elongated and the lower bodies are shortened. everything else works fine. i'm pretty handy and am wondering if there is an easy fix to it or is my son destined to play on the 9" smaller set. btw, i know tvs are pretty cheap but my wife already said no to getting another new  tv for his room. thanks for any info,  robert

Probably an electrolytic

Probably an electrolytic capacitor in the verticle circuit causing this.

MotvGuy is probably correct

MotvGuy is probably correct in this, but to be a little more in depth,  Its most likely the Two little black and red capacitors right next to the YC/sweep driver IC. Also in some models, they will be right in the upper left hand side of the printed circuit board, if thats where the vertical output is. They should be around 1.5 to 2.7 MFD type  capacitors.  Now if you of course have no tV repair experiece.  This information will mean nothing to you. But if you know anything about TV repair , this is where to start.  good Luck.  And please let us know how you made out with this repair, and if you got it fixed.

Oh Boy!  This is just a shot

Oh Boy!  This is just a shot in the dark.  It very well could be a bad vertical output IC, or a bad convergence IC, and or a bad regulator IC.  Any one of these parts couyld cause your complaint.  But without checking it, like I said, just a shot in the dark.  If you have a schematic and a mutimeterAND also have some kind of training in solid state circuit repair, then start with the power supply. then go to each device, disconnect the b+ feed to see if it is loading down the power supply.  If you do not have this equipment, and or the expertice, please be safe and seek out a trained tech to assist you with this repair, as a TV set is not a place to be experimenting around inside of.  stay safe!  Good Luck and please let us know how you made out with this repair.

hey larry,if you happen to

hey larry,if you happen to read this again can you tell me about how much to expect to pay for the repairs you mentioned. i'm going to probably take it in since there is no way i'm going to try and fix it on my own. thanks, robert

thanks alot larry, it looks

thanks alot larry, it looks like my son will have to play on the smaller tv because it's not worth putting that much into a tv thats 15 or so years old. thanks again for getting back so quickly! robert
