SHARP TV brightness problem

Hi

I have a Sharp 27F543 model TV (CRT, 27inch Flat screen), about 2 years old.  The picture started losing brightness gradually about a week ago and is now completely dark. I am able to view the menu which is very bright, there is sound, but the picture is very dark. I have tried unplugging for more than 2 hours and still it has dark pictures.

I read on the web increasing G2 voltage can sometimes brighten up the picture. But decided to let a technician do it.

I took it to a service shop, and their estimate is $175 for video circuitry.  This is close to 50% of the TV's original cost. Is this an honest quote? I thought picture tube was the most expensive part.

Please advise.

Thanks

The fact that the menu is

The fact that the menu is still at normal brightness indicates the problem lies before the menu is injected into the video in the Y/C jungle IC or associated circuitry.  It's quite possible that the IC is bad and yes, $175 sounds about right for that estimate.
