Zenith 56" Model Z56Z83R8 - distorted color

Our projection TV's color and picture are distorted with green & yellow predominating.  If I give it 15-20 minutes to warm up, it improves but changing channels brings it right back to the distortion, or, a black & white commercial seems to make the quality digress as well.  Is there anything we can do to correct this?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Larry,

Larry,

Thanks for responding.  The set is a Zenith 56" Model Z56Z83R8 (in the subject line).  When I first turn on the set, skin tones are either yellow or red and bordered with streaks of red or blue.  They're also off a little, kind of echoing the actual picture.  I'm pretty sure no colors are "true", but I can't be sure since I don't know what they SHOULD be.  The written word is illegible and fuzzy.  The TV Guide is fairly legible after about 15-20 minutes but still not clear.  This trouble started about a month ago.  The set is less than 10 years old and in the basement and has never been moved.  We use it more in the winter and I'm about ready to breakdown and call Sears but not looking forward to a large repair bill so if there is something we can try first, I'm open to suggestion.

Thanks again,

LindaGE

The set is 10 years old, and

The set is 10 years old, and I looked up the model on two differant parts distributors,  Alot of parts are still available and there are alot that are not.  Do you want to invest alot into this set?  From what you discribe, It sounds like the Registration module is going bad, and the set may need a cleaning and adjistment.  the registration module is what Zenith calls it, but its really just the convergence module.  If you did replace the registration yourself, it is going to need several alighnments and unless you know how it will take you forever.  The cleaning part is also a bit involved, as you need to disassemble the back and front, clean the mirrors and lens, then adjust the grey scale, and then the crt drives, and the focus on each tube.  If you have no TV experience, stay safe and call in a pro to do this repair job for you.  The registration board assy. is about 165.00 or so.  Oh also ME BAD I didnt see the model Number above.  Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out with this set.
