RCA TV Shuts Itself Off

Hi

I was checking around, trying to find if anyone else had this problem, but it seems like everyone has a TV that turns itself on and off...

The TV is an RCA, 36'' or so, I'm not totally sure.  It's a little over a year old.  The top left of it says "Entertainment Series," but it should probably say "Pile of crap don't buy me."  Regular tube projection screen, or whatever they're called, the same style of TV that's been out for years.

I'll be watching TV, or playing Xbox, both which use the A/V Cables for connection, front and back, and at random times the video on the TV will just shut off.  The sound will continue to work fine.

Tonight I wanted to watch a movie on the Xbox 360.  Put in the movie, turned on the TV, within 2 seconds it shut itself off.  If I turn the TV off and back on it just shuts itself off again.  For awhile I thought it was the remote somehow, but taking the batteries out of the remote doesn't fix the problem.

Pounding on the TV doesn't fix it either.

I unplugged just the Video connector for the 360, leaving both audio connectors plugged in, and turned the TV back on.  It justs goes to an "unusuable signal " screen, letting me know that it's not going to show video, but the audio works just fine.  And, guess what, the TV doesn't shut itself off.  I sat and listened for 5 minutes, and the entire time it worked fine.  Plugged the video cable back in, video blacked out within 30 seconds.  I tried unplugging it from the front connector and using the one in the rear of the TV, same results.

So if anyone happens to know what I can do besides take it out back and smash it up to vent my frustration, thanks very much in advance.

It sounds like to me you have

It sounds like to me you have a power supply regulation problem, if the sound and the picture goes off at the same time.  Could be the regulator itself, a bad capacitor.  If the set is only a year old, It is for sure worth getting it looked at by a servicer. Have you tryed to watch a program on a channel?  It could also be a problem now that I think a minute, in the convergence panel or the audio output.  Without looking at it its a crap shoot my friend.  if you have any servicing experience, you should get a schematic and go from there.  if you do not, a TV set is not the place to be experiementing inside of, so please, play it safe, and call in a trianed tech to assist you in this repair. Good Luck, and please get back to us and let us all know how you made out with the repair, as maybe it will help out someone else.
