I have a Sony KP-57HW40, and when I turn it on, the screen lights up (mostly green, with 10-15 lighter greenlines arcing across it). It stays this way for about 5-10 seconds, and then powers off. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong, and how much it might cost to fix? The TV was a gift, and if it's going to cost an arm and a leg to repair it, I'm probably not interested.

It sounds like a shorted Picture tube or the green drive is bad. The only real way to tell, would be to have someone come into the home and tell them to bring in a picture tube checker/ restorer. There is a chance that the short can be shot out of the tbe by restoring the tube, but also a chance it wont. This set happens to be a nice set! I have worked on lots of these sets and when they were new they listed for 3200 bucks! It is for sure worth at least a diagnosis on what or where your problem is in my opinion. Good Luck and please let us know what you found out about the set.
