In refence to my previous question (can't get a picture

This is a answer to my prvious question. (can't geta picture. The guy who answered if my tv just ouit, or has it been sitting. my brother says when he had it before it was moved, that it was getting a picture. Then it stayed in the same place and wasn't moved. He tured it off, after sitting for awhile, he turned it on and the picture would not come in. It's still the same now, ecept it's been sitting for a long time now. also you asked if it had pip. I don't know how to find out, there is no button, that I can see on the front that says pip.I hope this helps you to help me. Thanks, Chaos

Like I said if you can work

Like I said if you can work on solid state elctronics then you may get lucky and find a bad solder connection somewhere.  Thats why is was going off when it was moved.  But theres another issue here now.  If an older set sits around for a spell without being turned on, you have the chance of the Picture Tubes going flat in the set as well as ther capacitors in all the curcuits going bad.. My opinion?  Dont invest much in a set that has been sitting around as the parts are going to start failing.  Good Luck

Hi Larry this is my other tv!

Hi Larry this is my other tv! any advice? I have a mitsubitshi 50" 2000 tv. Model number; vs-45607. This tv was givin' to me, by a lady that stated, It was working really great, Great picture and ect. Then she said that it started shutting off after it was on for a little while. Then one day it didn't turn on at all. When I got it, I hit the power button, And it blinks three times, and turns back off again. The blinking lights are where it says timer. A friend that has worked on tv's, told me he believes the lights are blinking out somekind of code, refering to what the problem is. Does anybody have any info. as to where to check, to fix this? I would truly appriciate any kind of help I can get on this. Or is there any where I can buy a code book for this model? Thank You!, chaos

First thing, always, to do

First thing, always, to do with any failure of a tv set is to reset the internal software codes.  This is to correct any corruptions that might have crept into the system.

RESET: Unplug power. Leave it disconnected for at least 4 hours in order to get a discharge of all internal voltages.

When you power up again it will automatically reset everything to factory default settings.

THEN:  If the reset does nothing (I would give it only a 10% chance) then you have just come into the twilight zone of television nightmares.  The blinking light and the clicking relay is the worst possible thing that can happen to your tv.

THE PROBLEM:  Is a power failure that causing an excessive drain of current, which, in turn is tripping the ON relay.

THE CURE:  Is to find out what is causing the current drain.  Usually a failure in one of the deflection circuits is the cause (80% of the time)or the main power supply (10% of the time) or audio power amplifier (10%).  But it takes some hands-on diagnostics to determine which one it is.

REPAIR OR REPLACE:   For a set that is 3 or 4 years old or more it is generally recommended that you start shopping for a new set.  The rule of thumb is that if the cost of repair is more than 50% of the cost of an equal set in todays market, then you will be better off replacing the set with a new one.  The cost of a defective horizontal deflection system will be anywhere from $100 to $300 - depending on the specific parts that need replaced, for example.
