Panasonic TX28 DK2 Sond problems

I moved my TV to a flat recently and tried to set it up, all goes well until I try to connect the rear side speakers, when I connect either speaker all the sound dies. On disconnecting there is a short pause then the sound returns. I have tried all sorts of configurations of sound setups, and alternative similar speakers with the same results.

Is this a problem inside the TV, or am I missing something obvious?  Any advice much appreciated.

The wires or the speakers,

The wires or the speakers, where the wires are connected could be shorted.  Check very carfully for pinched or cut wires that maybe shorting together.  Also check at the rear of the speakers and see if the wires are attached to the back of the speakers by means of some sort of terminal strip, and make sure they are not shorted together also. Good Luck, and please let us know how you made out!

Larry,

Larry,

Thanks for that.  I have had a thorough check and can find no shorts.  Took it a stage further to see if there could be any inside the TV.  I took the back off, and found nothing. With access to other speakers I tried messing about. Using the red lead from other speakers and the black from the external side speakers I could get sound. As soon as I tried the red lead to these speakers on any other speaker the sound died all round.

Apart from dust most things look completely normal.  There is what appears to be a chip (labelled IC2074) on the sound board, which is cracked with a corner missing.  I can't really trace which of the 4 x IC207? chips do what, but my guess is that maybe this is the problem. Judging by the size of the cooling fins I guess these chips could run hot, maybe this has caused this one to crack.

If this is the problem I guess a new sound board is the solution.

  Any other ideas?

HMMM sound board,  Sounds

HMMM sound board,  Sounds very expensive!  if your able, simply take out the board and see if you have a freind or a repair shop could replace the IC for you.

Looks easy enough to remove,

Looks easy enough to remove, will check if I have somewhere to take it before I do.  There are 2 boards, one gives pre amplified output, the one in question is labelled as "live" and feeds direct to speakers.  I will post again if I have any joy.
