Samsung Rear Projector; PICTURE WASHED IN BLUE
my samsung hcn5527w hd rear projection tv has suddenly washed out all pictures from all sources in blue.  When I go to manual convergence the blue convergence lines move but are about 1 to 2 inches wide, any quick and easy fixes for this? suggestions?

Im sorry, your talking about the washed out Picture and trying to adjust convergence?  Please try to ask questions so we can define each problem alone?  Please send better explaination?

to clarify my problem with the samsung picture: all images have a blue halo surrounding them. when I go to the convergence screens red convergence appears and allows adjustment as usual, blue convergence has a large blue halo around each adjustment cross, I can move these halos during convergence with the remote, this allows me to shift the blue halo I see around the images on the screen when I exit the convergence screen, but it does nothing to get rid of the halos. I'll try to post a picture of my screen in next several hours. trying manual convergence is the only thing I have tried to do to fix the problem.

My profile picture shows a capture from my television set. As you can see, everything is surrounded by blue halos.

Ok I see what your talking

Ok I see what your talking about. The two convergence IC's must be replaced and after that the set will most likly need an alighnment. These parts are soldered intoplace and your going to have to know how to safely work on and service printed circuit boards. If you have no experience, please call in a pro to assist you with this repair. If you have worked on solid state electronics, then first you have to locate the two convergence IC. They are black with while lettering on them. The lettering will start with STK###-###, with the number signs being numbers of course. You will need to use originals as alot of inexpensive knockoffs are out there as replacement parts. they are about 2'X3' or so in size. They will be standing up and screwed doown onto a large metal heat sink. Do not try to do a service alighnment without the manual. If you need assistance, e-mail me the manual an d I will be more then happy to assist you. Good Luck and please let us know how you made out.

Larry Dillon, thank you so

Larry Dillon, thank you so much, my prime objective is to keep from having to transport the unit somewhere, I may need some more help as this adventure continues, I'll post something more to this thread in the next few days and hope you see it, I have not done any circuit board work since Vo Tech many years ago but I will call in a more savy friend in this area.

I did locate and remove the circuit board with the 2 IC's on it.  the numbers are STK 392-040, any ideas on sources where these can be ordered?  or maybe for me it would be easier to either replace the entire circuit board or the heat sink and circuit board together.

I found out where to get the

I found out where to get the entire convergence amp assy. Its only $108.00 and the ICs are like alomost that from another site. The service manual is also available at the same site. Simply go to the link Im posting and enter your complete model number and your all set to order. Scroll down click on the convergence amp assy and the service manual and order them.
http://www.samsungparts.com/ Good Luck and please keep us posted.

thanks again Larry, the parts

thanks again Larry, the parts are ordered for 2-day air delivery and I'll post something after I receive them.

Larry, if you're still out

Larry, if you're still out there, I have finally received the new convergence amp, I have installed it and my picture still looks exactly the same, will aligning the picture make a difference?

Larry Dillon
Did you get a service diagram

Did you get a service diagram or a schematic, as the ICs on your old board probably blew out the supply feed B+ sorce to the board?

Dawn
yes I did get the diagram in

yes I did get the diagram in the service manual

Hmmm... that doesn't look

Hmmm... that doesn't look like the convergence is out at all.  Have you pulled the front screen off and cleaned behind it, look for webs, dust or dirt on the lens.  In fact, look down into the blue tube while it's on and make sure there isn't something down in the lens.

Hello, I seem to have the

Hello, I seem to have the same problem as explained here. I have a Samsung HC-P4752W model though which is only 1 year and 4 months old. I see the picture like you are watching a 3D movie without the special glasses. How do I align/adjust the pictures? I do not see any information about this in the user manual. I can only see very basic color adjustment. Is there a service manual or other information on the web that I can use? Thanks in advance for your help.

Larry Dillon
Yes, go Here, http://www

Yes, go Here, http://www.samsungparts.com/ enter your model number on the left, and get the entire convergence board for that model, if the convergence is out. You also my need to do a little but of trouble shooting as well as some alighnment. So you should also get the service manual while your at it also. Good luck and please let us know how you made out with this repair.

Thanks very much Larry for

Thanks very much Larry for the information. I do appreciate your help here. While I am not tollay green when it comes to electronics, I have no experience in TV repairing either. I rather do not buy the board until I make sure that I can repair it myself.

Actually I have a feeling that the problem is a simple alignment problem. When I turn the TV on (without the cable receiver on), I see a curved blue line on the screen. When the cable receiver is on, I see the there is a shadow of the picture in Blue. Especially, when there is a set of words (like the script in the CNN headline news), I see that there is a blue curved line with the same words shown.

Is doing the alignment easy for a person like me? Does anybody has the service manula and can kindly send me a soft (or hard copy) of the part explaining the procedure for alignment? I would very much appreciate any help I get on this. Thanks in davance.

An alighnment will not go out

An alighnment will not go out all of a sudden my freind.  It would if it was an alighnment problem, start to drift out a little and the auto focus or the cutomer alighnment would take care of the small differance.  When it comes to a larger correction, it will need a part.  No Im sorry I do not have a manual.  The only place to get one would be at samsung, or if someone wants to share.  Good luck

I just wanted to thank you

I just wanted to thank you all. I got the TV fixed by somebody and It seems to be working ok. Thanks for all the help.

I was wondering what the problem turned out to be for Kashef and how much he paid to have it repaired?

Mine just did the same thing tonight :(

I ordered the service manual and hope its not too expencive for parts.

Turns out I am the luckyest

Turns out I am the luckyest person on earth, Still under warrenty. I ordered the manual for it via E-bay and if any one wants a copy I can try to send. So... just so people reserching via google can find it, I have the service manual for the Samsung HCN5527W the factory part number is SM-HCN5527W the file size is 10.5 mb .PDF they said I can down load it 100 times and have 7 days to do so with out me sending the file, they gave me this link

I know I am the only one

I know I am the only one still posting to this but I wanted to be a help for once The part that was replaced was the Convergence Ics chips, Looked simple to do and took her less than 1 hour. She said they go out often and to replace both chip at once instead of spending an hour tryoing to figure out witch one went bad. Most importantly PART # STK392-040 .

Hello, I TOO am having the same blue convergence problem. We ordered the STK392-110 (2 of them). Replaced them both and although we can adjust the red and green, we can only move the blue from left to right, not up and down. Any ideas on what the problem is now?

Larry Dillon
One of the IC's are bad or

One of the IC's are bad or there is a bad solder connection one one of the IC's.  i hope you folks ordered the right IC/s.  As replacement STK ICs do not last long and if you paid less the 10 to 15 bucks for them, you will most likely be replacing the same IC's again next year.  Also did you-all used heatsink compound on the back of the new IC's.  Are you trying to adjust the convergence in the service mode?

We did order the correct IC's, but we did pay less than $15 for them. We did use heatsink compound on the back of the new IC's. How can you tell if there is a bad solder connection. Also, how do you put the TV in service mode? We called a local TV repair shop and they estimated $400 or more to repair the TV.

What about the fusible

What about the fusible resisters? Would they have anything to do with the blue convergence? I wonder if ordering a service manual would be helpful?

Larry Dillon
How do you think you will

How do you think you will adjust the set or knoiw what controls what?  If you mess with the wrong controls. it can mess up the TV set.  Yes the fuseable resistors should be checked when you replace the IC's.

Similar problem, thought

Similar problem, thought convergence but not the issue, green CRT blooms, no focus.

I had a problem where over 2 days, the green image started to get fuzzy.  I ran a perfect focus routine and it got a little better.  Next day, I turned on the set and the green image was way fuzzy.  I tried the perfect focus and it could not complete as the green signal in the calibration was way out of focus.

I read all the forums and replaced the convergence ICs with new Sanyo units today as well as checked all the pico fuses and the current resistors - all OK.  Reinstalled the board and the proble is exactly the same.

When trying trying to have the set do a perfect focus routine, the TV starts with Green and tries to do convergence while trying to focus the green signal.  The focus gets close and then goes back to very bad as the convergence routine tries to move the image around.

Tonight, I downloaded the schematics to see where the focus comes from.  I see that the Red CRT drive board contains a Dynamic Focus circuit that feeds a focus block that looks like it splits the focus signal to all 3 CRTs.  I can't find a schematic for the focus block to see what it does.

I'm going to try to switch some focus signals to see what it affects on the other CRTs.  The way it has failed makes me think that a transistor failed or op amp driving the focus voltage to the coils but it sure is not easy to follow signals through these schematics as half of the time the signal names are not present.

I'm looking for any guidance on where the focus signal originates and splits or if anyone has seen a failure like this.  Since the CRT has a sweep signal, can get very close to being focused and the convergence can be moved, I'm  looking at a pure focus problem.  I'm not thinking its the tube unless something is happening on the HV side and the HV (anode) is split 3 ways so the other tubes are OK.

OK Sportsfans, got it working

OK Sportsfans, got it working but it may only be for a short time.

I was looking for what was causing the focus issue with my green tube.  I removed the green drive board to trace the focus signal and found a problem.  On the white tube socket on the board, I found a burnt pin connection.  I did not note the pin number but I'm sure it is a grid connection.  I also found a small amount of coolant pooled in the socket.

I don't know if this is a very slow leak or something that has just started so I cleaned up the tube with some flux remover spray and took the board outside to really clean it out.  I used flux remover on the board and reconnected it, turned on the set and had focus for about a minute then out again.  I pulled the board again and used a parts cleaner solvent and really drenched the board making sure I got under the socket and in all the crevices.  I did it again and let it sun dry.  I used a paper clip to try to clean up the burnt socket hole and kept scrapping the sides to get it cleaned up.  I re-cleaned the tube base and the connectors for the board.  I reassembled and turned on the set.  Although convergence was out, I did see the green signal was clear.  I ran the "Perfect Focus" and got a good convergence.  Now the set looks great.

I will have to see if the coolant does this again by leaking.  I'm thinking I may just watch for a while and may clean it again if necessary but I'm not going to replace a tube and housing.  If anyone has any info on the common coolant leak issues, I'm listening.

Hope this helps someone.

Hi All,

Hi All,

I have convergence problem to my Samsung HCL473 W projection TV. No picture and timer led constantly lit.

I ordered and received two Stk392-040 amps. I was able to remove Stk392-040 amps from the board. Now I have hard time to align the amp pins to the board. In order to place these amps to the board, Do I need to take the heat sinks out from the board? If so how should these can be removed?

Thanks in advacne.
