I bought the TV directly from Philips on-line AUG2006, it is still under warranty.
I recently discoverd a problem with his TV when ordering a CableCARD from my local cable company; in the settings menu there is no entry for CableCARD set-up as it shows in the owners manual. The cable service guy came out to install it and thought the tv might reconize the cable card once plugged in, but no dice (we tried 3 different cards). I called Philips explained the problem and they agreed with me that there should be an sub-menu CableCARD selection in the main settings menu. They referred me to a local TV service shop, I called and he had me check the software version, it was the latest, and if there were any error codes, there were none. He then told he could do nothing due to there not being any error codes and would have to call philips back to see if they could help. I told him Philips referred me to him, he says, " I know but I need to call them anyways..." Has anyone out there had the same problem?
The firmware is bad in the painter iC. The local TV company must not be aware of this problem as I have heard of several cases where something was missing in the Microprocessor based menu. call them back before this set goes out of warranty. The will try to run you around till its out, and then charge you a hefty service charge and for the IC . Please let us know how you made out. Good Luck
Thanks Larry,
I am not to tech savvy, can you expand on the painter iC? And I will make sure to call them back.
They call the Microprocessor IC the Painter IC. It is a common fault with alot of phillips, Magnavox and Nap TV sets. It is a four sided 100 pin flatpack design. It is a surface mounted device , and requires special tools and equipment to replace. A very hard IC to replace. It has built in firmware, or to be non technical, the programming for the TV set. The memory such as when you program channels or change the video or audio settings are stored into whats called the eeprom IC. Thats stands for electronic eraseable read only memory. Im not sure if your model has this fault as of course im not there but I thought I would pass off this info to you as alot of peeps do not even know what the company calls the IC. Its a place to start from. I have seen this problem a few times and have advised about this problem several times. Good Luck
Awesome, thanks Larry.
I just received an email from Philips advising me they instructed the referred TV Service repair shop to replace the part.
Again thanks for the help!
Great!! could you please let us know what was done when you get the set back?? Thanks.
