I just purchased an older Philips Magnavox Projection Screen Tv for cheap, Model #7P6033W101. The problem is the screen has a green tint the entire all the time. I know almost nothing about projection televisions but wanted to confirm that the problem is with the Blue CRT and it simply needs to be replaced. Just wondering how I can get my hands on one for cheap. Thanks.
Ok first off if you have not had any experience with a projection TV you really should not be experimenting with them. A solid state TV set has no user replaceable parts inside them and also has alot of High Voltage inside them, even when they are unplugged.. Now that that is done. You can preform a quick test to see if a tube is bad or is a drive problem. Simply unplug the set. open the back and the front bottom, the green tube is in the middle of the three tubes. Take off the green tube crt socket along with the red or the blue, switch the crt sockets and turn on the set. If the set still comes up primaraly green then i would say most likly the green tube is most likly bad. If it comes up with another primaraly dominat color then the green drive is the problem. But in a set this old, if you replace one tube you will never get a correct gret scale ot white balance, as the other tubes are worn and are on there last leg and all three tubes should be replaced, and alot of these older tubes are not available for a decent price these days. You will have to find out the numbers on the crt's and search for them online. Im sure you will find them but the price is going to shock you. Good Luck and get back to us and let us know how you made out.
I have a 60" Projection Magavox TV which I owned new since 1998. Just recently the screen displayed only blue and green colors but no red. Does anyone know what it would cost to fix? Is it worth it to fix?
It could be worth repairing, but you can never tell till the red tube or the red drive circuit is looked at. try reversing the green and the red tube sockets around and see if the red comes up. If it does not, then most likly the red tube is bad, and thats going to cost you around 4 to 5 hundred to fix, if its still available. One problem with replacing a tube in a set thats over several years old is, it will be mear impossible but in some cases is possible, to get a good grey scale. If the red does come up then your going to have to get a trained tech troubleshoot the ncrt drive circuit for the red tube. Let us know how you made out. Good Luck
