DVD surround sound

I am usesless with technolgy so please help!  I had a DVD player/home cinema system which just died on me. So, I bought a DVD recorder. Question is can I still make use of the suuround sound speakers? Was advised to use old DVD player as an amp but it has no coaxial or optical output which I was told I would need. Can i just buy an amp separately?

hoops, yes you can by a

hoops, yes you can by a preamp/amp unit, as that is exactly what you need to hook up the surround sound speakers to, but I will tell you, most of the time, it is less expensive to buy a complete package deal then separate componets.  I did alittle comparison shopping just know and i saw a complete package deal from199.00 to 499.00. the separate componets to purchace them was about 25% more. let us know how you made out.  Good Luck

Thanks Larry, I don't want to

Thanks Larry, I don't want to buy a whole package deal as I already paid for the new DVD recorder. Are amps expensive on their own? Can you sugest a good place to buy one as I really have no idea what to look for! Thanks so much.

Anyplace like Best Buy or ABC

Anyplace like Best Buy or ABC warehouse would have what you need.  you can also do a search online for audio equipment to see what you want or to look at and compare shopping.
