You did not say what type , model it was. Is there a setup menu? Is the unit set up to be used in the proper format such as NTSC or PAL? This is a common fault that happens when the units are not in the right format, and are able to be used in differant country's. Check the Menu in the setup screen. It Sounds like you may be from the UK from how you spelled color? If so you should be in the PAL mode. If in the USA you should be in the NTSC mode. Now If you are setup in the proper mode, then there is a problem in the color processor circuit and most likly not worth the bench charge for an estamate. Let us know how you made out. Good Luck

I am in the UK you're right! i've since checked the format and it is PAL. It hasn't been used for some time but I went to use it today and even the start up screen is in black and white! So it must be the Colour Processor Circuit. Oh well thank you very much for taking the time to answer my query. i'll have to buy a new one when i've enough money.

Now you're getting too technical for me i'm afraid. whats a RF modulator?
There are two leads around the back of the machine, the power lead and a scart lead which then goes into my cable set top box and then into the TV.
the controls its set to on the screen setup menu are: tv type - 4:3 PS: screen saver - on: tv system - PAL: video out - normal. on the video out its got a "YUV" selection i don't know what that is. i've tried it and it's still the same.
yes i have. but today its got colour although not right colour it seems like there's a lime green filter over it!!! does this mean its the colour processor circuit all along?
It is a possibility that the scart cable is bad. Have you another one on another piece equipment that you can take off of and put on this DVD player? If you do, try it, and if it has the same problem, I would say say to the unit being bad and having a color processor problems.
well i could buy 1 and try it. thanks for all your help on this problem. i'll let you know how it went when i've tried it with a new scart lead. thanks again... ;-}
Yes Helen its too bad that in todays world, if you have to take almost any electronic prduct into be repaired, you can buy a new one for almost the same cost of a repair. Well good luck and come back and pay us another visit soon!
