Sanyo 42 plasma DP42746 just died

I have a 1 year 9 month old Sanyo DP42746 42" plasma TV.  It has been working fine till the other day, the screen went black and then the sound went silent.  Now the only thing that happens is the little power light comes on when you press the power button or turn it on via remote, sometimes you'll get a crackle from the speakers when you turn it on.  There is a light on the inside that flashes that I can see through holes in the back of the TV.

I would like to tear into this myself, I've always had an interest, any ideas on where to start, or service manuals for this model?

I found that there is an

I found that there is an error code on the power supply flashing a d12v error.  I unplugged one the main plugs that went to the other circuit boards and the supply would stay on, but of course the tv screen would not come on.  Voltage does read 12 volts when it is on.

Do you think I have a short somewhere in the other board?

Something is loading down the

Something is loading down the power supply.  Sanyo has few if any service manuals available for any of their Plasma or LCD TV's on their website.

I had the TV repaired at a repair shop to the tune of over $400.  Said y-main was bad and some other y board, power supply I don't believe was bad.

Yes, the screen driver board

Yes, the screen driver board was loading down the power supply. You are lucky that this was not part of the entire plasma panel as it is on some brands.

Davidl340,

Davidl340,
My tv did the same thing. I had the y main and upper and lower y buffers replaced. However, I now have sound but still no picture. Is there anything else that was replaced for the picture? Thanks

Larry Dillon
If the Y buffers where

If the Y buffers where shorted good chance that the X buffers are bad too. also you may have a buffer power supply issue as well such as open resistors or power supply problems.

I find it interesting that so

I find it interesting that so many ppl are haveing the same type of problems with the Sanyo dp42746.Also the fact that after about the same time period after buying the TV,,,it has problems.Im going to try to contact company to find out why this is,and see what type of response i get.I dont know if its just me or not..but ive notice in recent years more products seem to go bad right about the time the warrenty expires.Anyone else noticeing the same thing with other products? For the price a person pays it seem to me its fare to sell them something that would last a bit longer like the old school TV use to last.Say about 10 years!

I just took apart my father

I just took apart my father-in-law's Sanyo DP42746. They've had it for 3 years, but only use it part of the year. It stopped working 2 weeks ago. The error position light flashes 12 times indicating a D12V error. Not sure what that is. I see everyone is having the same problem.

GRRRR....
same exact problem for me

same exact problem for me with the same exact model. mine lasted 3 years though. i'm on hold with customer support right now. i highly doubt they'll be able to tell me anything other than i'm SOL.

update: just finished with customer support. they had me disconnect the tv from the wall and attempt to reset it via the remote. that, of course, didn't do anything. they then gave me the number of the local tv repair shop. having it repaired to the tune of $400 and then having it go bad again in 2-3 years is not worth it. this will be the last sanyo i ever buy....

Perhaps we should file a

Perhaps we should file a class action lawsuit alleging faulty products from Sanyo, for poor quality of television components and life.

Same-Same, this is terrible.

Same-Same, this is terrible. It is even worse when I think about how much I paid 1400 then 2 months later it dropped to 800. I have had mine for about 2.5 years with about 1year of use if even. I had it in a room I barely used. I asssume now I could buy the same type for just over the cost to repair this one - so it sounds. WTF

not really necessarily, you

not really necessarily, you nshould check first how long the manufacturers warra tee is on the set?? Did you purchase an extended warranty look on the bill if you still have it or check with the store you bought it from??

Yes....To all questions asked

Yes....To all questions asked the same problem is that I am having a similar problem...If you turn the tv off at night, next day turn it on,half of the tv is black and sometimes it takes quite a while for it to comeback right,It started with a thin black squiggle line in the left side, which is very annoying, now I leave the tv on all night and that way I don't have to wait a long time for it to come on...As in someone else's case I called tech service and they told me in no short terms, that is has no warranty left,I had it for 1 year and 1 month, and yes they seem to go south after the warranty period...I think the fella that suggested we sue sanyo for selling JUNK,Is quite correct...

i also have this model of Sanyo, and guess what it just did the same thing all of you are talking about however i am more fortunate than the reat of you my 1200.00 tv last 4 years before crashing now it appears to be a big paperweight.
i called and talked to Sanyo the told me it sounds like a processor has gone out and it would cost around 400.00 to repair so then i called Walmart where i purchased it, the walmart employee basiclly told bummer, but did tell me they have alot of tv's on sale right now, GREAT just what i wanted to hear. i think walmart and other stores that sell these defective TV'S also have a responsability to the consumers.come on walmart you talk the talk now walk the walk!

Hello,

Hello,

I have this Sanyo HDTV model DP-42746 with a plasma screen gone black. I replaced the Inverter board and later the PDP board. These boards were bad; the power IC's were burned out after four years. Heat sink compound dribbled down the side of the IC heat sink. Still no avail. I'm going after the Logic Main next, as this board feeds the two replaced modules and the horizontal scanning modules. The sound is okay. The local and remote controls work. The screen is just black, not even any display characters. I hope the screen is not bad. How would I check the screen? Any suggestions?

Have the same unit. Every 4-6 months ours will lose the picture. Power light still comes on just no picture. If the set is left unplugged for 1-2 weeks, it will begin to work again for another 4-6 months with absolutely NO problems. This to me does not sound like a board or anything too major because it does work without problem for 4-6 months. Anyone else tried theirs again after a week or 2 to see if it works?
