Mitsibushi VS60705-diminishing video

Turn the set off Sunday night, no problems. Turn set on Monday evening and the Video is dark and flickers breifly periodically, mostly blank like it is not on. Audio, tuner selection and other function seem to be ok. PIP tough to verify.

Unplugged for 16+ hours, turn on worked great for about 3 minutes then shut off automatically. Turned back on picture was week and boom went blank. I have inspected the guns and the are clean. I have no ability to diagnois the problem further.

Any assistance would be appriciated.

It seems it could or may be a

It seems it could or may be a capacitor or two in or around the PIP board.  These boards go bad all the time and im told that it is no longer available, but there is a way to jump it out.  I saw that on e bay once.  you may want to check that out or see if a PIP board is available.  A bad capacitor ibn the sweep power supply will and can make the picture poor or go dark as that ia what supplys the proper voltage to the screen driver transistor.  If your not a tech you should not be experimenting inside these sets, as there is alot of High Voltage around even if the set is unplugged.  Also this is a solid state set and has no user replaceable parts indie them. I would advice you to call in a local repair person to assist you in this repair.  Let us know how you made out and Good Luck

I have contacted a local

I have contacted a local repair shop, there tech said that the blue gun has leaked fluid on to a board and would need to be replace and the gun reglued to seal it. I looked at the board and did not see any fluid so we may be gettin a second opinion on this.

Larry I appriciate you feed back and willingness to share info. Believe me I am only visually inspecting things, I am aware of the released energy of a capacitor. We used to toss a small automotive 12 volt capacitor from to some unwill soul now and then and it will light them up.

Anyone ever heard this

Anyone ever heard this leaking light gun thing before, it is sealed or it is not!

SteveR,  Yes unfortanatly I

SteveR,  Yes unfortanatly I have.  Mitshibishi knows there is a problem also for a long time.  They used to include in every set a type of redirector of sorts for the liquid to run off to the sides of the set, where noithing would get into the way.  But for some reason the plastic tabs stopped being installed in the newer types of tube projection sets.  It didnt happen to all sets as it was only on those sets that the tubes were over filled at the factory.  And if you wipe and clean the boards It would not do too much damage as long as it was not allowed to sit on the double sided boards.  The only thing that bothers me with this thing is you say the video is dark or no picture at all.  My experience with this problem wjere the tubes were dripping onto the boards were where the TV would not respond to the rempte or the panel switches ie wouldnt turn on most of the time but would all by itself sometimes, and would intermittantly go into and change the brightness and volume all by itself.  i would get a second opinon if I were you.  But Im not saying its impossable for the tubes to leak,  I have never seen it cause your comp-laint. Also if I ever decided to buy a rear projection tube set , made by this manufacturer(as they are really good sets most of the time), I would purchace this after market kit of plastic flaps to redirect the leaky fluids to a safe spot inside the set.  So if you do get your set fixed, ask about the flap kit also.  it may save you from future headaches.
