I just got done hooking up my new Denon AVR-1907. Everything seems to be working ok, but I have no audio when playing a dvd. I currently only have four speakers, two hooked up to front and two hooked up to surround. Dvd player is a Sony DVP-NS400D. I used an s-video cable from player to receiver. I also used a digital optical audio cable from dvd player to optical-1 port on receiver. I have picture, but no sound. I am very new to all of this. Please help!
You need to check the setup menu on the AVR-1907, and assign the Optical 1 digital input to the DVD input. This basically tells the receiver where to look for sound when you flip it to DVD. You should find the option in the menu under "Digital Input Assignment".
Also, don't forget to check your speaker setup and tell the receiver you don't have a center channel connected. Otherwise, you won't hear any voices when listening to 5.1 sources!
why is it that i can play dvds in auto mode on avr 1907 denon i get sound from speakers but when i try and play dvd which has dts then select dts mode on reciever i get no sound from speakers
I would suspect that the default setup for the dts mode expects audio input from the RCA cables rather than the optical input. Look in the user guide under setup for the DTS mode.

the dvd is connected to reciever via coaxial dan so im not using optical lead and dts out settings on dvd player which a pioneer dv 490v seem ok is that what u mean
