I have a sony 50we610 grand wega that's worked beautifully for 5 years. I turned it on and all I have is snow for a picture, it's stuck on channel 2, one red blinking light when it's turned on and it won't turn off unless I switch off the power supply. I've had 2 repairmen look at it. 1 said it was the tuner. 2 said it was the mother board. Both said it was more expensive to fix than to replace and they would do me the favor of taking it off my hands. Is it fixable and can I fix it with the help of a friend that's an electrician?
The fact that you only get snow would lead me to believe you do have a problem with the tuner board, but the fact that you cant turn it off sounds like there is something bad on the power end of things. Unless your electrician friend has solid state experience he would probably do more harm than good. I would suggest taking it to someone who makes their living from repairing them.
How many times does the red light blink when you try to turn it on?
Once isn't an option according to the service manual. Definitely sounds like a pwr board problem. We are talking about an LCD tv right?
