hi
i'm a littble bit confused, i would like to be able to watch video from my computer on my tv.
I have a ibm t43 laptop with a svideo and vga output. And a tv (1080i, 720p) with rca, rgbhv, hdmi input. And i would like to know what would be my best option.
Can i do it through svideo to rca without converter
or can i do it through vga to rgvhv without converter
thanks a lot
Hi,
I am with you- want to connect my Dell Inspiron to the Toshiba TV for display. Cables are in, what do I need to do to transmit from the laptop to the TV>
JK
rgbhv and VGA are the same signal format. Are you sure you're not referring to Component video (red, green, and blue RCA cables)?
If you're fine with connecting through S-video, surely your HD television has a S-video input?
Spinax, you'll need to be more specific about the TV you have for connection advice.
Did either of you read all four pages of the article "How To Connect a Computer To Your TV"?
hi thanks for answering, yah i have component cable rgb , and i also have s-video cable.
But what would be the best quality transmission without any extra converter...
Hello, helpers! Thanks for the response-
Here is what I have -
Dell 600M Inspiron laptop, ATI card, update installed (to be confirmed when I can find Device Manager.)
Toshiba 27" analog TV with S-video connection(4 pin) and two sets of RCA cable video and audio input sockets. I have a DVD/VHS player (successfully) connected to one set of these.
My connecting cable is S-video (7-pin) out from the laptop to a S-video to RCA cable splitter (also has a 4-pin S-video out) wioth the three audio/visual RCA cables to the TV.
I am studying the 4 page article....

Further Spinax posting- my cable hookup from laptop to TV (described above)should be working. I think there is a glitch or some door/path I have not opened in the laptop. For example, when I right-click on Desktop, Properties, Settings tab, Advanced button, I get a window titled (Multiple Monitors) and MOBILITY RADEON 9000 P... This window has a General tab and 9 ATI tabs. If I click on ATI Displays, I get a Scheme window showing "Default Single Displays" and Hotkey (none). Below these are four display diagrams- Panel (of the laptop) enabled/unblocked/connected but the other three, Monitor, TV and FPD show the connection blocked. I cannot unblock the TV connection by clicking on the power button, upper left corner. Nothing happens when I click on that button. I think I am getting close and need some advice on what I might be doing wrong!
Now I am getting into "extended desktop" and "clone". I am getting in over my head.........

Partial success!
With the laptop On and the cables connected as last described to the TV,I went back to the ATI displays on the laptop. The block on the TV icon had been removed and I needed to press the power button. Did so, went back to the TV and checked the line input and bingo!, am now displaying a small portion of my desktop image on the TV. Found I could connect to either of the two input cable rows and receive the desktop image portion. However, when I went to a photo file in the laptop and ran a slide show of the photos there, the image of the desktop remains on the TV. Somewhere I am missing the "gate" between what is showing on the laptop and what shows therefore on the TV. We are close!
Ideas?

Can anyone out there help me, I have read connect tv to pc but it still doesn't make sense. Yes I am probably thick.
I have tried for months to connect a Toshiba laptop with tv card, via a Combo TV box VGA series TV3488e to my Bush TV The TV has video & cable connected.
I have so many cables all of them appear to be on the short side, they include an MMI cable & VGA cable?
Please help before the whole lot goes out of the window.
Thanks to those that helped. My issue has been resolved as a result of 4 sessions with DellChat. I can now display computer files and photos on my analog TV. It was a problem with matching i/o resolution as well as laptop outpout configuration.
Thanks, Spinax.
I am in the same boat with the TV to Laptop video problem. I made my way through the s-video and audio hookups, but can't get Windows Media Player to display on the TV. My desktop displays fine, and the audio is working fine, but when I play a DVD or other Windows Media clip, I get no display on the TV. Any advice? (I am using an IBM T43 notebook, though that should be immaterial since I have successfully made the connection with my desktop, documents, and everything but WMP video)
When in mirrored mode, video clips will only appear on the primary monitor (whichever is listed as number 1 in your display settings). If you want video to appear on the TV, make the second monitor an extension of your desktop or make the TV your primary monitor.
It would also be nice if you could surf the internet without having to get up out of the bed. So, if you could somehow hook up a pc to the tv or have a tv with wireless internet capability and a wireless mouse and keyboard. What do you think?
