I have an older Sanyo model# DS-19390 television that will not stop displaying captioning at the top of the screen. There is no option in the menu to turn it off! What can I do to get rid of this very annoying feature???
Your going to need the original remote to turn off the closed captioning as there is a button on the remote that says caption. Go to http://www.remotes.com and enter your model number to see a picture of the remote. You may be able top borrow one from a local store or a friend to just turn off the closed captioning. Let us know how you made out with this please. Good Luck
I don't have the original remote & now I see that a universal won't work. I discovered from another source one other thing that may fix it: I'm going to try it when I get home from work! It involves unplugging the TV and then holding down the "menu" key while plugging it back in. Apparently, this throws you into a "service menu" in which you can reset everything to a factory default without the remote. Worth a try before buying another remote!
I'll let you know what happens! Thanks again, Angie
Didn't work. What appeared was a very technical (at least for me) & endless menu for adjusting the picture. I tried not to change anything and make matters worse! I guess I'll see if I can find an old remote on Ebay... Bummer.

I have heard of this procedure on newer sets but not on a model such as this. Hmm I would be interested to know about this.
