If you are looking to perform a G2 adjustment and electrical focus on your Sony or other common rear projection television yourself, the following detailed procedure will help you do it properly.
G2 Adjustment Procedure
- Turn the green screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
- Turn the red screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
- Turn the blue screen control on the Focus Block until retrace lines appear and gradually turn it back until the point where you can see the retrace line disappears, just before cutoff.
- If the screen still appears too bright after proper G-2 adjustment, you need to adjust the sub-bright adjustment in the service menu control down until screen cut-off. (Service data Range is usually 21 to 25 in the Service menu, for Sony sets you first go to category "MCP2", & then adjustment item 01 ("SBRT") = subright.

Electrical Focus
For electrical the focus, put on the screen a clear picture of your choice thru an input of the TV set from a DVD, then pause the playback of the DVD Look into each color and rock that color focus control back and forth (turn the control one way then the other way slowing down as the picture goes into the best focus. till the picture looks sharp do each color till they all look in focus. NOTE: it is best to look into each color tube to achieve the best electrical focus. For optical focus please follow the manual lens adjustment in the sets service manual.

Something that i do that
Something that i do that helps with worn tubes, is to do the procedure listed here then tune to a channel then turn the color all the way down until you see a black and white picture. then adjust the g2 till you get a good looking black and white picture. Turn the color back up and it should look pretty good. This helps balance out uneven tube wear.
the problem with that sir is
the problem with that sir is a lot of sets you cannot turn down the color all the way. i also recommend people to use a black and white DVD like an old movie or cartoons and adjust for the best gray (scale&black) and white picture. that is the reason I did not add that to the adj. article but thank you very much for your input as i put that together after several folks tried to adjust out the color for the convergence and after that was fixed of course the set was in bad shape as the colors and focus on the screen looked horrible and they all wanted to know how to readjust what they messed with!!!!!!
