Hello,
I friend just gave me a wd-52725 TV. The TV turns on, but the picture is very dark. I have tried all of the inputs. The menu screens come up clear and look fine. The TV sat in a finished basement for two years and was not used. Before it sat it worked just fine. Any ideas what may be causing this darkness issue? It is like you are always watching a night scene in a movie. I cleaned the lens and mirrors to no avail. If I run cable directly to the tv some channels look ok. I am fairly good with my hands and would like to try to fix it myself. If instructions need to be sent they can go to [email protected] . Thank you in advance for your help!

When I cleaned the mirrors and lens it was "cloudy" looking. I can best describe it as what the inside of a windshield would look like in a heavy smokers car. It had a whitish film on the bulb also. I have downloaded the manual that shows my how to remove the chassis with the circuit boards in it. the link for where to obtain the fluid would be great. I have found kits for other rear projection tvs, but not the DLP. If you have any suggestions about how to replace it please let me know. The manual I have does not mention the fluid at any point.
OHH,you have a DLP,I was thinking you had the v17 chassis for some reason...guess im getting my threads mixed up,sorry. I believe you have the v26 with the infamous bad caps. have a look at these links http://www.techlore.com/download/25253/Mitsubishi-WD-5xxx-DLP-Repair-Guide/

I ended up replacing 4 bad caps on my dm board. My picture is still really dark. But, here is the thing. If I put it on PIP the screen looks great. Good color. When I switch it back it goes dark again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. My wife is getting sick of this thing taking up space in the basement. Thanks
There are some on the FMT power board also. What is your video options for Contrast , Brightness , Sharpness , Color , Tint , Color Temp set at?
Here are the settings I have. I don't get it. If I leave the picture on normal it look really bad. If I Picture in picture it, it looks awesome. When I set the perfect color settings The picture was dark but the color scale on the right was as bright as could be:
PERFECT COLOR SETTINGS-
Magenta - 37
Red - 41
Yellow - 36
Green - 38
Cyan - 33
Blue - 30
-AUDIO/VIDEO MENU-
Black Enhancement - Off
Video Mute - On
-VIDEO SETTINGS-
Color Temp - Low
Video Noise - Standard
Defining Edge - On
Contrast - 38
Brightness - 49
Sharpness - 14
Color - 32
Tint - 29
-2470 MENU-
Power Restore - On

So, I replaced a crap load of caps. What I do not get is, when I put a SD card in the front, the picture looks fine, I go to an input in the rear and the screen goes dark.
