I have a sony grand wega kdf55wf655 manufactured in 2005. it has recently started going from power on to power up with perfect video and audio for about 1 min. then it goes to standby mode with loss of picture and sound for about 2 mins. and then back to perfect video and audio. it does this repetitively and sony hotline has no answer. anyone with a similar problem? any ideas?
If your a tech, you should first resolder the horizontal driver transformer. If that dosent help then theres a compent most likly in the power supply thats breaking down. If your not a servicer or handy with electronics you should seek a pro to assist you with this repair. Good Luck
no it hasn't been repaired. if u have extended warranty. advise use it now! i did get it working again for a short time by resoldering connections on hdt and found a loose connection on secondary power supply. sony still says that problem has never been reported. i am waiting on a service manual to proceed as the unit has given different indicator lights. one says the lamp is out of place or needs replacing. i took the lamp to a friends house with the identical tv and tried the lamp. it worked fine. i am still open to any suggestions and will post if i get the problem corrected. would appreciate the same.
i have the same problem. manuf. date dec 04 I just ordered a new sony xl 2200 lamp. If and when i fix it i will let u know. sony told me when it goes on and off it needs service YOU THINK

to all with Sony kdf55wf655 experiencing the same problem as i have.
after my last posting i began trying to isolate the problem and let the
tv cycyle on and off for awhile while looking through the owners manual.
this model of sony has a reduced power supply setting on your video
control menu. i noticed that the right side facing the tv and where all the
power up circuitry is was overheating and shutting the lamp down. i turned
off the tv and let it set for about 10 minutes while running a fan thru the
vents on the rear of the set. after it cooled down, i powered the tv back up and hit the reset button on the bottom left. the tv kicked off and then powered back up as it says in the owners manual. i then went to video menu and set the tv on reduced power while leaving the fan running into
the rear of the set. the set came on and stayed on and i have been watching it for about a week now and haven"t experienced any problem except that the screen is a little darker in reduced power mode. i have switched it back to standard power and ran it with no problem as long as
i have a fan blowing on the right side of the tv. i have received my service
manual and will proceed to troubleshoot. it appears that the small fan located above the power supply circuitry may not be cooling enough and is
causing circuitry to overheat. i don"t think this is a long term solution but
it resolves the faulty lamp issue. I am handy but not a tech and am still looking for tips. would appreciate any comments from the techs on this
site. good luck
I replaced the lamp xl 2200 and the tv is working fine. Replaced on the 14th working fine this morning

i HAVE A kdf55wf655, THE LIGHT WAS BLINKING RED SO I THOUGHT I NEEDED A NEW BULB, BUT I PUT THE BULB IN THERE IT STILL WONT WORK ANY TIPS
I have sony wega KV-36HS420 thats been going off by it self, fowled by 7 blinks.
After a few days of being unplugged i was able to watch a whole dvd movie with no problem. Possible tv still needs to be fixed? what does 7 blinks mean? Thanks
rob z, PLZ READ!!! I had a sony tv that did the exact same thing and after replacing the lamp it worked for a year and went out again. So I went on Sony's website and surprisingly found a product alert for a long list of sony rear proj tv's and the problem is that the lamp fan gets clogged causing the lamp to overheat and melt and that eventually makes it so the pin on the lamp door doesn't reach where it is supposed to and sends the color light blinking code to say the lamp isn't installed properly or needs replaced which replacing the lamp will temporarily fix your problem. BUT, I called Sony they sent out a certified tech who came to my house the next day to inform me it wasn't able to be fixed so sony replaced my 2005 rear proj tv with a new 60 in lcd tv that is awesome!!! Sony is a great company and they will take care of you. I believe that the "recall" for the fan\lamp door problem is still good thru 2011 but I'd call them asap if I were you. the number you call I believe is 866-918-2485. Let me know if they help u out if u don't mind. Hope they get u a new tv!!!
Amandabearcat: Please let us know these below and it would be a great help. What was the model you had and how many times the light was blinking when you got the issue. Was your TV on and off keep going for every 1 of two minutes and blinking about 30 plus times and again the TV audio and video works for about 1 minute and again keep doing the same behavior?.
Where did you see the product alert? Can you send me the link and it would help us great to get repaired from Sony or some good solution if not resolved by them.
I appreicate if you can really help us send ing these ASAP.
I have been dealing with the exact same problem. The TV is a KDF-55WF655 and recently it turned itself off in the middle of some shows. After that, each time that you turn it on, it will come on the normal way, but after about 20 or 20 seconds it will go dark and silent. At that moment, the bottom-right light will flash green 30 times before the TV comes back on again. The light will continue flashing 7 more times and the cycle will repeat itself continuously. So, to shuts off, flashes green 30 times and video/audio returns and the light continues flashing 7 more times for a total of 37 flashes. Then screen goes dark and audio is lost until the sequence repeats itself. It never flashes red, like other persons have indicated. I removed the lamp and dusted it with a fine, soft bristle brush and blew some air through it. It wasn't that dirty. I also blew air in the opening where the lamp goes. Re-installed it and the problem still persists. Someone said the "ballast" might be at fault. Any ideas out there?
