Vivitar Vivicam 10 - Can't download photos to computer or delete

Hi I love my Vivicam 10&20 it takes great pics, I have had it now for over 8 yrs. I have the disc it came with and have used this same camera over and over. My problem is that the whole sytem has a bug in it. I have deleted the whole Vivicam program and set the disc to download it again as I am not able to retrive the pics from my camera any longer as I had done before. Like there is no inf connected. Sigh... Do you have any thing to help me with this problem. I am very familiar with this so not sure why it will not work for me now. I have used it just this past summer for my hubby and jobsite pics. It acts like there is no informati0on from the camera and the computer. It wil not ever delete pics as I asked it to. It shows 25 pics on the camera but it will not down load them to my computer from the camera. Hope this is good enough information to help me. Please advise. Thank, Bunny

Okay, I'll bite, but I'm not

Okay, I'll bite, but I'm not quite following what your question is.

If I read you right:

- You have a Vivitar digital camera
- You had the software installed on your computer
- You deleted the software
- Now it won't work

Am I following you right?

Please re-read my information

Please re-read my information. I told you more than just that. I have reinstalled it trying to get it to work correctly and to no avail, it will not do as described above. Is there a number where I may call and talk to you, to try and get this solve easier? I have free long distance, so I could call you maybe. It would help so much. Thanks, Bunny

Hi Bunny,

Hi Bunny,

TechLore doesn't offer any telephone support. All in all, this is an online community where members help members. I may be the administrator here, but I consider myself a member too. :-)

I didn't overlook the part of your re-installation, just trying to get the general gist of your question.

Now, the Vivitar 10 is a 640x480 max res digital point and shoot with 8MB of internal flash, meaning there's no removable card (you know that, but as good info for others who may read this).

That being said, I'm going to split your question from this article discussion and move it to the digital camera forum. Now that we're in our own thread, we can try to look into the problem a little deeper.

You said you "deleted the whole Vivicam program and set the disc to download it again." How, exactly, did you "delete" the Vivicam program. Did you manually navigate to the program files folder and delete it, or did you use an uninstallation command, like in the Windows Add/Remove Programs area?

My guess here is that this is a driver issue, which should be easy enough to solve, but the specifics here would be helpful in taking the next steps.

Well I have been gone to work

Well I have been gone to work a lot and not been home to work on this and I see there is no reply after I told you that I had used Windows to delete this. I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO USE MY CAMERA AGAIN, but... I may not be able to due to this issue. Sighhhhhhhh, Thanks Matt for your help, but I got nowhere with this matter. Hope we can work on this from time to time as I am not home a lot. I work 140 miles from my home and am in the process of packing to move. If you could give me some inf. to work on from time to time that may help. I don't know. Sincerly, Bunny

To be fair, saying you used a program in Windows to delete it isn't super specific. It's helpful to know EXACTLY what you did. So I'll poise the question again. Did you use Windows Explorer to "delete" the program, or did you uninstall the software in the Windows Control Panel using Add/Remove Programs?

In the end it may not matter, here's the steps we should take.

First, re-install the software that came with your camera. That's going to be the first step no matter what.

Next, connect the camera via its USB cable and launch your camera software that you just installed.

For kicks, try to transfer the photos. Given your past experience, it probably won't work, but it's worth a shot.

Navigate to Control Panel --> System --> Hardware tab --> Device Manager. Look for a device with a yellow exclamation mark next to it, or at worst, look for the item that indicates your camera.

Let's hold there and see where we are. Let me know how this goes, and if you can find your camera in the list.

So I have the same camera, a

So I have the same camera, a ViviCam 10, and I have had it for... ten years. Here's the problem: I have all the required software and drivers installed on my "state-of-the-art" Windows 7 computer, but the computer refuses to recognize that the camera even exists. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers countless times, but still the same result occurs... Any advice on the issue?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried looking on

Have you tried looking on microsofts website to see if it is compatible with the "state-of-the-art" OS?

It's not at all compatible, as the product is out of production, and so the Microsoft team didn't design Windows 7 to be backwards-compatible with it... The last OS I saw that could recognize the camera was Windows XP... My question now is how to get a device not compatible with Windows 7 working with it, if it's at all possible. Thanks.

If you have software designed

If you have software designed for the camera, install it and right click the icon go to properties and click compatibility then set it to run as xp.
