Mitsubishi VS-60705 Horizontal lines until warmup

Hi, Our VS-60705 is about 9 years old and has been getting horizontal lines until warmup. It has been gradually getting worse. I read another post from a couple of years ago and he had ezact same problem. He said there were two capacitors that seemed to be causing the problem. Well I put a heat gun to each of them and I could get it to fail or get better by adding heat or freezing. There are 2 capacitors right next to each other. The one that I found to be succeptible to heat and cold was C 957.

Has anyone had this problem and do you think this capacitor could be causing the problem?

Thanks for any help you can give me. This TV is in our childrens play room and they are really wanting some action on my part..LOl I will give them action as long as I don't have to throw good money after bad.

I have had good luck in

I have had good luck in replacing CP03 CP04 CP05 CP02 CP07 CP08 C979 . C979 is on the board on the right . The other six are on the left . You'll need 3) 100mf@35v 3) 47mf@50v 1) 2.2mf@250v . The caps you talk about might be bad but just got thru repairing same model # and this took care of it . James

James,

James,

I appreciate the help. I am looking at the Service Manual and only see the reference # for C979. The others I don't see in the manual. I will look for them in the TV but was wondering if you know which of these numbers link up with the one in the service manuals.

Also was wondering where you bought these caps? I tried to find C957which is a 820mf 180V cap but so far was unable to locate.

Thanks, Ed

James, Any advice on the

James, Any advice on the other question I had about Part ID's not matching up? I looked everywhere on the CB's and could not find CP003 or any of the ones you listed. Is there any numbers missing or maybe a picture where they are located? If not maybe you can give me a physical location especially if the 6 caps you listed are all together. I did find C979. Thanks, Ed

Its on the left board (

Its on the left board ( signal ) . If your looking at the board on the right side there is three parts mounted on heat sink surrounding a shield cover of about 3" by 5" . These caps are in front of the shield and to the right loking at the set from the back . Four of them are in front of the shield and two are on the right . You will see the the 9v & 7v & 5v regulators mounted on the 1" heat sinks standing about 3" tall two caps to each one . On the board they are CP02 CP03 CP04 CP05 CP07 CP08 . I do not have the service manuel but just finished the exact same model # so i am not sure how the manuel list them , but i do know this is what the location # is on the board . Let me know , Jmaes

I think I found them. They

I think I found them. They are labeled C2P03...
C2P04 is on the other side of the 9V regulator. I also saw C2p07 anmd 8 on the right side as you said. I appreciate all your help. Have already emailed one of your suggestion companies to order some caps.

I'll let you know when successful. Ed

Ed58, please let me know what

Ed58, please let me know what you found out regarding obtaining these parts. I have the exact same unit, doing the same thing. Where you located the parts and all part numbers would really help me out.

Thanks,

Reath

I received the caps and

I received the caps and installed. When I tried to power up the television got a green light and one click of the relay. Would not power up. Performed the diagnostic check by holding the input and menue switch down for 5 seconds and got error code 22 which is a short.

I did install a few of the Caps in backwards and got this problem. I went back in and replaced those that were in backwards. Same problem. The ones that were installed reverse polarity were C2P02,C2P05, C2P08, and C979.

Also the 4 fuses which are not pico fuses F901-F904 are not open..

Any ideas? Obviously I must have shorted something out. My mistake on not researching about polarity on this type of capacitors. Been along time and ceramic caps at that. Hopefully I didn't give this board a death sentence..
Any help will be appreciated

Hello list. Our local

Hello list. Our local Salvation Army needs some help with repair of this unit.

From what I was able to do so far, the power turns on fine...i even get sound out of the stereo channels. However, there is not picture...absolutely nothing on the CRT. I was wondering if anyone will be willing to send me the service notes.

I assume there is some video PCB inside that I can re-flow and replace caps? I am a bit nervous with the CRT high voltages (aren't they around 30kV?!?!) remember reading a way to discharge the CRT anode on the top (always looks like a rubber boot cap with a lead out of it). Does anyone have any advice of what to check first? I will check the power supply rails to make sure they are in spec but after that what would cause the sound, power to work ok but no picture?

Thanks for any and all advice I appreciate it. I am just trying to help them out I am not an electronics TV tech....
