jvc 42inch edtv plasma

I recently am having problems with my plasma display after 3 years. The problem I am having is that during watching tv from 1 to 2 hours the screen will start to flicker then freeze when this happens the tv turns off and the green led light on the moniter and control box begin to flash. At this time I am unable to turn the tv back on. The only way to correct is to unplug from the wall then back in then I can turn the tv on. Some times this will fix the problem but most times after 5 minutes the tv will just turn off again. I used a jvc authorized repair facility to fix my problem. And after $900.00 still have the same problem. His answer to my problem is that because it is intermittent problem it will be hard to diagnose which I understand. But if he was not confident in his repair he should have just told me to wait till the problem gets worst instead of guessing on a $900.00 problem. I was just wondering if any one has had similar problems and what the repair is. Any help would be great.

It sounds like a power supply

It sounds like a power supply problem.  Could may be  a loose connection on a filter capacitor or the , a bad solder connection on a plug or cable.  Problem is, with a set that is intermittant, its a shot in the dark on where or what the problem is, or if you really found the problem.  Does the repair person plan to work on the set again?  Is there any set way or when the TV set goes out?

I wish i could get the set to

I wish i could get the set to act up on command it just comes and goes when it wants to. My only gripe is that the repair man gave me only 30 warranty on the labor. and 90 days on parts. So of course he would like the warranty to to run out so he could charge me again. I just dont want to throw away the 900.00 investment. Any more money into the tv I might has well just purchased a new one with an extended warranty.

I have a JVC TU-42WV74.  I'm

I have a JVC TU-42WV74.  I'm having a display problem where I get magenta vertical lines coming down.  When I try to access the menu, I get green vertical lines (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 in thick) showing together with the existing magenta vertical lines.  I see no picture/images on the screen.

Like slpbird, my edtv is only 3 yrs old.  I wonder if we have the same model?

I saw some of your posts regarding busted capacitors Larry and I wonder if you refer the board on the TV itself or the control box?

Anyone have an idea what can be wrong with my tv? Thanks in advance.

The more I hear about this

The more I hear about this problem on the JVC Plasma TV, and the more I speak to other Techs who service these EDTV sets, the more I am leaning towards the main board having a defect in them.  These board take the analog signals and convert to digital, so working on these sets is basicly board replacement, unless there is an obvious power supply problem, such as a low or missing voltage.  the biggest problem with all of these plasam sets, most maunfacturers do not give you alot to deal with when it comes to the service manual.  Mostly it is in the form of block diagrams, so you can see the signal flow of the circuit and make a good educated guess on where thr problem lies.  I know PTS corp does repair some of these boards, but not really sure what ones and how much they charge.  On a set such as these types, I would for sure, if I was going to purchace a new Plasma,  DLP set, or even a large LCD display, buy an extended warranty.  Please keep us informed on the progress of the repair on these sets and Good Luck

We had the same issue with

We had the same issue with our JVC plasma display.  The light kept blinking and the TV turned itself off without letting us turn it back on.  Unplugging it for 5 seconds didn't work, but unplugging it for 5 minutes did the trick.  Just how long we will have the privelege of viewing the TV is anyone's guess as we hope it is not only for the next 10 minutes.

As soon as our tV started doing this, we researched the Internet to see if this issue was common.

 Anyone successfully resolve this problem?

What I did with mine was hook up a cheap clip on fan that is powered from my cable box. Ive been using the tv for over 6 months this way and the tv no longer shuts off. Soon I will just replace the tv the prices of a new hdtv are dropping like crazy.

I have a JVC PD-42WX84.This

I have a JVC PD-42WX84.This is a plasma set. It?s a beautiful machine and I had no problems with its performance up until now. I bought it in late 1948 and here we are in November 2010.
I am having similar problems. The first episode I would turn it on and it turns itself off and I see flashing blue power light.
Another time I cam home turned it on and nothing. Just the flashing blue light. I plugged it out for a few minutes and got the same to start. Then I tried again and I got picture. A faded barely black and white picture.
The next day I turned it on and I got a picture. But it is a blotchy faded color picture. Not the brilliant viewing machine I was used to. I have looked around on the internet but have found no answers. My warranty is long since been out. I expected ten years out of this thing when I bought it for a lot of money at that. Looking to buy a new one. I did my research and I believe I got a great product all considered for the money. But I will try a new brand just the same.
