Samsung 1080i HDTv OVERHEATING? Electronic fire smell..

The set is not new, I'd say 5 years old or somewhere around there. It was occasionally showing signs of fault by not turning on every now and again. Finally it went out altogether.

When I plug it in the little tune goes off indicating the tv is turning on. Then the light goes out and it turns back off. Theres a smell coming from behind the tv that smells like electronic fire.

I don't want to toss it, should I call someone or is there anything I can do?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hey man, it sounds like you

Hey man, it sounds like you are screwed.

You can't watch any sunday football games and no one on this tech site (who has posted in 2,000 other threads) seems like they have the faintest idea whats going on with your set.

Best of luck though,
yourself

if your getting a burnt smell

if your getting a burnt smell i would assume it would be a resistor, grab a service manual from the technicians corner and take the back off and check the boards, probably the main pwr board, for burnt circuits.Get the number off the board for the circuit and look it up in the manual.if its burning resistors theres a deeper problem, maybe a capacitor somewhere down the line letting to much voltage through.
