My television has the come on and go right back off problem. Saying it has code 22. I got the TV from a friend who couldn't get it working about a year ago. He said it would cost to much for him to fix and he gave it to me. Researched and fixed it with replacing the 7 capacitors myself. I got the walkthrough with pictures on this replacement. Now I am thinking I need a walkthrough with pictures on replacing the STK393-110 and pico fuses. (which I don't have a clue where these are located). The repair kit that has been suggested has the 7 capacitors which I don't need I hope. Can somebody help?
You're probably right about the diagnosis but you need to confirm that the picofuses are bad. They are located on the middle large circuit board and labeled F9A04 AND F9A05. Use an ohmeter to check continuity and if either one measures infinity, you need to change the convergence IC, as it has caused the shutdown problem.
The fuses are 5 amp types and available from MCM Electronics as a box of five, I don't have the part number handy.
My strategy in replacing these parts involves removing the board from the plastic frame first. You'll need the service manual for disassembly directions but it helps to slide the chassis back so that you can access all the cables and securing screws. Also, you'll notice that the STK393-110 is mounted on a large heat sink that is awkward to remount. I try to break off the middle mounting plastic piece on the frame and use this to secure the heat sink to the board before re-installing the board on the frame.
Another tip is to remove the speaker grille at the front and the access panel to enable re-attaching some of the cables.
Be extremely careful in soldering the 28-pin IC. It takes a lot of patience.
Good luck!
found them all and I think only the F9A05 is bad but I will replace them both I think. Can you find those at radioshack? That is where I got the capacitors. Thanks for the help.
I don't think so, but they might have something equivalent. You only need to replace the bad fuse, by the way.
Should I replace the STK393-110 IC also while I am at it or try just the one fuse first?
By all means, change the IC. Failure of the IC is the reason for the bad fuse.
Thanks oldtech for all your help. I will see what I can do, and let you know how it turns out. I may just have to buy a new TV after all this. hahaha
Ok I got everything and replaced it all. Turned on the TV and it was working fine for about 5 minutes. Now it is back to how it was, Code 22.
