This is absolutely something

This is absolutely something you can do your self,on most laptops there is a small cover on the bottom being held with a couple or a few screws take that off and you should see some things that are flat and laid down with chips covering the side of them,on some models you have to stand them up to remove them and replace with the new ones, when installing new ones use a static strap or hold the chassis of the laptop, either way be aware of static charge, while touching these chips. As for where to get them this is about the best place ive found----> HERE

they have an adviser tool that you put in your model manually or a scanner tool that you download and it finds what you need for you.

Remember the more ram the

Remember the more ram the better a GB is better than a MB.Depending on your computer model you may have more slots for RAM than what your computer can actually recognize and use.acording to This---> http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20dv4000%20Se... <--- you have 2 slots and your computer can recognize and utilize up to 2GB={2048MB} so two/2 one/1GB chips should put you at your maximum allowable RAM for that comp.I also see that some dv-4000 models take DDR2 type of ram.I dont know what type of ram you have or how much of it you have nor do i know what type of OS/Operating System you have. All this would be usefull information to help you better. For all we know you already have maximum allowable amount of RAM in it.On most newer model comps you can find out how much RAM you have by going to start, control panel, system and have a good look in there.as for telling you what type (DDR/DDR2) you need/have you will have to download the scanner tool to find it that way or you may have to take the old chips out and look at them they may have it on there.DDR and DDR2 are not interchangable.Cheers and good luck, write back if you need more help.
