The edge convergence on my Mitsu WS-55859 is off. The white grid, especially in the lower left hand corner is bowed inward. on the left and right sides running the whole length the color is off but most of the grid appears to be square and uniform. This is for the SD sources. On the HD sources the grid is worse and the colors are more noticably off including the color convergence on the grid too.
So I have a service manual which goes into lengthy detailed instructions on convergence but doesn't necessarily give you the order of how to align in respect to each menu. Also within each menu there are sometimes sub-menus with more settings, etc. I had to replace the E2P module a few months ago because of a power outage. Since then I have replaced the STK convergence chip, from the site you receommended, this was completed most recently but the picture still looks the same. I also replaced several capaciotrs on the board and even checked the resistors - the resistors showed no signs of excessive wear. I wonder what settings my old E2P had because I just can't seem to get the convergence correct.
The next step is to go into the menus and perform the actual adjustments but before I do this I was hoping to find out if there is an order to start from i.e menu. Is there a procedure I should start with perhaps resetting the E2P, then perform a factory reset on the convergence, etc.? Is there a list of all the factory default settings for each menu so I can go through them one by one?
I am familiar with convergence and by trade have done this many times on projectors but this has so many menus and settings I just don't want to make matters worse. If you feel this should be performed by a service repair shop - do you know what the going rate is for such a repair? It's an old set - I know but I really love the set and it was a huge pain to get into my basement and I really don't want to have to take it out just yet.
I appreciate all your help. Sorry for the long post but more information is generally best information when it comes time to troubleshooting.=
Here is a picture showing the HD (DTV Input) of the convergence grid. The SD grid seems to look better but still isn't quite right. I want to make sure there isn't a hardware issue before attempting to align - as mentioned the STK chip was replaced along with caps... Your feedback is greatly appreciated.
I don't know if this is similar to the issue I've been working on with my older Mitsubishi set; however, via the service manual I was able to get "deeper" into the service menus to adjust the green grid - allowing me to improve the base grid that I'd align the red and blue colors to. Perhaps there's a "deeper" convergence menu that would allow you to accomplish something similar on your model? If you don't have the service manual, you can download it from this site, here.
Good luck and keep trying - as long as you can move all the colors in all direction, you likely just need to work through the menus to gain convergence.

Thank you for the tip. I did obtain the service manual and it appears that my menu settings are way off from the default settings in many cases. There a lot of menus to go through however.
This is going to take a while to do because I wnat to write down each setting before I change it. The only reason i can think that these settings have chagned so drastically is because the E2P module was replaced or the factory performed some modifications or there is still an electrical issue somewhere...
I would imagine others have had this happen so I will post the fix whatever it is so that others here can benefit.
In my manual - if the E2P module is replaced, it states that a re-configuration of all the settings throughout the service menu is to be accomplished, starting with a full reset (E2RESET) - thereafter those settings will have to be adjusted to achieve proper convergence, focus, operation (this includes accomplishing the high voltage adjustment via procedure described in the manual). I'm still working on mine, and I agree - there is a SUBSTANTIAL amount of information to record and modify.
If you can move all the colors in all directions, you probably just need to work in the menus instead of having to worry about an electrical issue, but I don't know enough to make that statement definitively.
Good luck, and if you have an electronic copy of that service manual you can always submit it for posting on this site - or upload it to another free service manual site: http://www.eserviceinfo.com/

How do you perform a "full E2 reset"? I didn't recall seeing that in the manual but perhaps I missed it. I guess I need to read that over again...
I can move all the colors in all the directions - so this should indicate that the chip is functioning correctly. I did replace it including the capacitors since I had the set open - it was the original chip...
FYI - I noticed on the old chip that there was no paste/grease under the chip only on the edges - strange. It never failed but then again I didn't use the set very much and it really was never on for long periods of time - so that is probably why it lasted so long.
Keep in mind, my chassis is different than yours, so the E2 Reset might not apply to yours. It's accomplished by performing the following keystrokes on the remote:
Press (MENU-1 -2-5-9-6-8-9-7-0) in sequence.
Here's the included note:
Convergence E2RESET should only be performed if the Convergence E2PROM IC is replace, or Convergence
is way out of alignment. Activation resets all Convergence Data, including the HVOL adjustment
in CONV-MISC. This requires performing the High Voltage adjustment and a complete Convergence
alignment.
I'd go off of your service manual - if there's no reset procedure, I'd ignore my comment regarding such. Just look over the manual well for instructions if the E2P is replaced.

I put in a late night working on this. The "default" settings were close on some menu items but way off on others. I am probably about 60% done with the convergence adjustment for SD. I noticed that you have to align green first - *this is a must or you will make a lot of extra work. I am going to finish the SD later on today and then work on the HD settings. I also found another menu which allows for you to write to and from the EPROM - I found this by accident and it is not mentioned in the manual. I will post this code later. Too bad my old E2P died - I wish I would have known to get those settings.
BTW - You really need to set the Jungle settings first as this positions the grid on your screen and be sure to adjust the keystone and all the other settings so they are as optimal as you can get them. Next go into the coarse Green adjust, then last is the fine adjust. Once this is done move on to the Red and Blue.
I will hopefully post an update this evening once I am done and show you the after photos - at least for SD anyway
Best of luck and keep plugging - sounds like you're on your way to enjoying your TV and saving quite a few bucks.
