Blue "Haze" on Hitachi model 50V500 LCD

A blue haze appears on about one quarter of the screen.  Is this a bulb or optical engine problem?

Larry Dillon
It is most likly an optical

It is most likly an optical problem with dust or a haze on the optics or a bulb problem or could be a bad LCD display.  If I were you and if you are handy, get a service manual, look at how to disassemble the optics and light housing, and clean everything first, but NEVER ever spray anything onto the optics and use just a slightly damped soft cloth, never any paper product.  Or the way the pros recommend is with compressed air, but if it is canned air, be carefull, as those things get cold and you can easaly damage something.  In a good camera store they will have a bulb type blower to clean lenses off .  Let us know how you made out. Good Luck

Dear Tin Pushrer:

Dear Tin Pushrer:

The lamp went out on my 50V500 about a month ago. I replaced it with the OE Hitachi lamp, new in a box (purchased on eBay).

I carefully installed as directed and and all was well for a week or two, but now I have a swirling blue cloud growing in the middle of my screen, that sounds like what your describing.

How did you get yours fixed?

                                                        Thanks,

                                                                   Doob

Both of your problems are due

Both of your problems are due to a bad optical engine. Hitachi has extended the warranty of the engines out to 3 years.  You'll need to contact an authorized Hitachi service center to have this fixed at no charge.

Thanks for the update,  I was beginning to think there was only a "tunnel at the end of the light"!!

I'll call my local authorized service center tomorrow.

Hitachi now says if it's the light engine, they will send one at no charge to my local authorized tech service to install, but are still insisting that I pay for service call and labor.  We'll see, but I'm not about to give in on that one. I'll keep you updated.

You're lucky, some others are

You're lucky, some others are running into resistance from Hitachi.

BTW, I checked with my work and only the V500 sets that we bought are covered by the 3 year warranty. Everyone else is stuck with the standard one year.

The 'resistance" is HitachiĀ

The 'resistance" is Hitachi  insisting I pay for the first diagnostic service call (and the actual repair call) when the Service Center, Hitachi,  and everyone else on the planet knows it's their defective light engine with this model. (i.e. the whole TV is hosed). The Service Center is trying to get them to authorize out of the gate, we'll see how that goes.

I would say if someone has one of these sets they need to bug the hell out of Hitachi till they make good on all of the costs of repair. That's my plan.

Hello -- I purchased a Hitachi 62VS69A -- 62 in. rear projection LCD HDTV on September 19, 2007. There was no extended warranty available at the store so I had the 12 month parts/labor manufacturer's warranty. Around October 3, 2008 I started seeing a light blue area on the screen -- I was TWO WEEKS OUT OF WARRANTY!!!!!

From what I have been able to read while searching the web is that it sounds like the

I am having the same problem with my Hitachi 50V500. This is actually the third issue I have had relating to this product and the light engine. I will call Hitachi tomorrow and see what I can get from them. Any suggestions for courses of action or arguments to use? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem as carjam, at first I just had a blue ring around the middle of the screen, then the lamp burnt out and and we got a new one. I still had a blue ring for awhile but now it went from the little circle to a huge blue haze on the outer side of the circle and now the middle is the only part without any blue. does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it or do i have to buy a new tv.

Dec. 27 2010, We have been having problems with our Hitachi 62 inch model number 62VS69A when i hit the power button the power button flashes blue, then after a little while the temp, and lamp button both flash red.there is a buzzing sound of it trying to turn on, after a minute it just powers itself off. Nothing turns on. Prior to the tv not turning on, there is blue pizels all over thbe screen especially on the outside edges of screen, and for the past 6 months or so, everything that should be white came up yellow. Whats the problem and how much does it cost to fix? or can it be fixed? is it simple enough to remedy myself? TV is only 4 years old!!!!!!!!!!

Having problems with Hitachi

Having problems with Hitachi 50V500. Blue Haze humps at bottom of screen, now showing on left side of screen and at the top. Has destorted the picture yet. Bulb has been replaced twice since we purchased in 2003. What do you all think about the blue haze issue? Is it Light Engine?
