Could anyone help me solve a problem with my plasma? I have a Sony 42" Plasma and it has a 2" black line down the center of the screen and i cant get rid of it. Anyone know what is causing it and how i can get it fixed. Thanks.
Ok First MATATMURTON, Your plasma set has a common problem that alot of plasma sets do. I have to tell you , if your not a tech, theres really no way for you to fix this on your own as you need to be able to read and use a capacitor checker and a multi meter. Theres a power supply inside your set, that one part has a supply on it called the sustain voltage. This is a switched voltage that supplys a constant DC on the supply lines on the screen matrix. The scan lines are switched with differant voltages that tell the screen when to light up and what color matrix to be. This comes from the driver matrix board. Im pretty sure your sustain supply is low or bad. Most likly a 3300 or a 2200 MFD capacitor in the main power supply. Some times you can see, when you open the set, the capacitor looks swolllen. This may not be the only problem though.. sometimes the power regulator IC that regulates this supply, goes bad and shorts and makes the cap swell , or it will overheat and open up. Eather way, unless your trained to work on solid state electronics , Its best to find a trained tech to assist you with this repair. Good luck and Please let us know what you find as maybe your input will help someone else.
Ok now to gadit, You Plasma set has a good sustain voltage, as if it did'nt have it you would'nt have any thing on the screen at all. Whats happening here is theres a bad or intermittant connection on a driver or whats called the scan ribbon cable. thers also one more possibility that i have seen aslo with the Plasma sets. you could have a problem with the scan driver circuit . theres many driver ICs on the driver board. these boards are not repairable , at least to the typical electronic repair shop, unless they have the proper surface mount unsoldering and resoldering jigs. Please call out a professional to assist you in thius repair as its not for a handi man to do!! good luck and PLEASE if you can sio maybe you can assist others , Let us know of what was found or what was needed to put your set back into full operations again,.
Hope you can help as this is becoming a real pain.
I bought a PS42Q7HD plasma about 2 months ago. The TV is great in normal 'live' mode ... BUT....
When I use any recorded media via an EXT connection i.e. both scart connections in the rear of the TV, the screen intermittently flashes black and white throughout the program. It can work fine for a few minutes and then it starts flashing for a few seconds or more and is almost impossible to watch during that time.
I am talking about my VCR, DVD and also my SKY+ plus box (UK satellite)where I record and replay most of the programs I want to watch.
I have done the obvious and checked physical connections, swapped connections, and even checked all these external devices by attaching to another TV where I dont get the problem - so by process of trial and elimination this indicates 100% it is specific to this TV and not the attached devices.
I have also checked the TV user manual etc. but nothing to assist me resolve this.
Please can you advise if this is a known 'fault', if it can be resolved or if it seems likely that either the TV or the rear connections sound 'mechanically' faulty and the TV needs replaced.
