Akai cft2790 not powering up

Hello to all!

Akai cft2790

I've enjoyed this TV for about nine years now, and have never really had a problem with it. Most might say that it has surpassed its useful lifetime and should be thrown out. While that may end up being the ultimate solution, I have convinced myself that I would like to do some trouble shooting to make sure that the problem is not being caused by a few old capacitors, diodes  or other economical components that I could replace myself. I am not a technician, but I have repaired my own computers and household appliances. I have a DMM and can check voltage, current, resistance and continuity. I don't have an LCR meter or  oscilloscope, so my tools on hand are somewhat limited. I am familiar with the danger of stored charges on capacitors/crt's.

The problem:

When the power button (or remote) is pressed, the green LED will light up breifly, and then about 3 seconds later, I can hear 1 click (like a relay kicking), but the TV does not come on. Usually, after the click, you would hear several musical notes, and then the TV would come on. When this problem first started, you could cycle the power button a couple of times, and the TV would come on. It has progressively gotten worse to where now it takes 15-20 cycles for the TV to power up. It's like one of the components is on its last leg.

I have searched a great deal on the internet, but have found very little info directly related to this model. I did read that this Akai is the same as the Samsung txk3276 and I was able to find a manual for that model. I am not sure if the parts are actually the same. I am hoping that one of the technicians on the forum has ran into this type of problem and could give me some ideas on what to check first.

Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance to anyone who could shed some light on this problem.

It looks like those sets are

It looks like those sets are "Chassis KS3A", you might have better luck using that term for searching repair histories.
Locate the horizontal deflection circuit in the manual and check solder on the flyback, transformers, transistor, coil.

Alnp,

Alnp,
Thanks for the recommendation. Haven't found any repair histories yet that have the same progression of the problem that I'm having. I will continue looking and also follow your advice on the HDT, flyblack... etc. I appreciate your help.

I have a AKAI CFT2790 TV that

I have a AKAI CFT2790 TV that I have owned since 2001. It has been a good TV. Recently it has been slow to produce a picture when you first turn it on. The audio comes on and no picture. You can turn it off and on a couple of times and the picture will finally come on after a bright flash. Now the picture will not come on at all. The audio plays fine and you can change the channels ok, the picture just wont come on.
