Toshiba 50H12 Alignment Convergence help

hi I have a Toshiba 50H12, which is a rear projection tv...anyway I got it second hand, and am trying to set it up right.

Problem is I open the service convergence grid, and the blue and green align perfectly, but the red bows in at the center, at the top and bottom, creating a squeezed from the middle effect, as seen below..

Is there a setting in the service menu that would enable me to straighten the red grid up to align with blue and green?

Sorry to say NO there is not.

Sorry to say NO there is not.  You have a typical convergence IC falure that almost every projection TV set, if it stays in service long enough, will suffer.  You really should If you have some TV repair experience, get the service manual, locate the Two Large STK IC's on a metal heat sink, and replace them.  this way with the service manual, you will have the proper flow of redoing the convergence alighnment.  Please, if you have no solid state repair experience, and or do not know how to work on printed circuit boards, stop and call in a pro to assist you in this repair.  If you think you can handle a TV set repair, and please do not do any experimenting inside this set unless you do know what your doing, I will require a copy of the circuit as to assist you with this repair.  good luck, and please keep us all informed of your progress with this repair.

Well I ordered two of those IC's, and am awaiting there arrival...I work on computers for a living, so circuit boards do not scare me, although the high voltage kind of does...got any safety tips?

Thank you for your time!

well I replaced the IC's and

well I replaced the IC's and reassembled, but now the power light turns on, with no sound or video although and stays solid for a second or two, then starts to flash....nothing from there...any ideas from here?

Any help appreciated!

You must double check your

You must double check your work.  There may be one small solder bridge that you missed.  Maybe a plug or wire harness came loose or halfway out of the socket.  Check them all, even if they look good.  Pull them out, and reinsert them just to be sure.

Whas the best way to remove a

Whas the best way to remove a solder bridge? I did notice a few adjoined solder pin to pin, more like 6 pins in a row..

Also, when finished, do I have to on any way reset it? If so, how?

Thanks!

BTW I have the service manual in PDF, It's just lengthy. if theres a page/section you would like to see,  I can upload it to a picture host and show it here....

Thanks for all your help, in case I don't mention it enough!

The best way is with a solder

The best way is with a solder sucker or whats called solder wick.  I hope there are not any blown small resistors.  You should also look at the schematic and finfd the b+ feed resistors and check them out.  Hopefully you did not burn anything in the power supplys.

Wel right now I'm leaning on

Wel right now I'm leaning on the solder bridge...since I saw a few in there...how exactly would I of burnt the power supplies out?

B+ feed resisters, just make sure they're soldered  and not broken?

Larry Dillon
Your going to need to make

Your going to need to make sure they are good with an ohm meter.  You could have done something to the power supply with the solder bridges, this is a short circuit.

My tv has the same problem

My tv has the same problem with convergence. It's about 3 yrs. old and has HDTV but we don't know how to use it so we ?just ignored it. Is it worth repairing and learning about HDTV or should we get a new one? Are the new ones as difficult to set up with a home entertainment system as this one? We went nuts setting this one up as no one in our rural area knew how to do it. We're seniors and want something easier to set up. Any recommendations?

A set that is three years old

A set that is three years old should most certainly be worth repairing, I would think.  You should contact the manufacturer in the owners manual and ask them where the closest Authorized repair shop is for that type of TV set.  Good Luck, and let us know how you make out with this TV set.
