How did you fix it. I'm exactly in same position now. I replaced caps, screen comes up with checker board pattern and audio. How did you fix the checker board problem?
Thanks!
guys,
I have the exact same problems. no picutre before replacing caps. now its just a checkerboard with sound. help.
If the picture looks like checker board pattern the TV may have a problem with part:
D8F00 PART # 264P828010-diode-DAN202U/MA142W
D8FO1 " " " " "
C8F26 " 141P148000 CER (B25K-1M-K)
C8F29 " " " "
OR the formatter board #930B924001, on that board there are 5 caps 1000 ufd 35v that commonly go bad.
Replace all caps that are swollen, but resolve your checker pattern:
1. Tile or block pattern replace D8F00 and D8F01 part # 264P828010, also replace C8F26 and C8F29 part # 141P148000 (1 uFD, 25 V) on the FMT PCB (part # 930B924002).
The diodes have a stripe (line) that is the cathode, at one end of the device, the board will reflect that line. Good Luck,
I'm where it was... wow May 16, 2009, almost a year ago. I gave up bought a 60in LG 60PS60 (something like that) plasma for $1600 a long time ago. My mitsu is another room in pieces, not sure what to do with it. Ashame to throw away, but it's my basic feeling towards mitsu.
Their support was worthless, the tv was built using crap components. My 32" tube from JVC from 1996, 14 years ago, still works great. The Mitsu in 4 that cost 3800 with warranty is worthless now. Bought a thinner, 1080p 60" plasma for $1600. I basically just feel ripped off by Mitsu and from their support really feel like I'll never buy anything from them again.
Our local repair shop said the boards aren't replaceable. Not supported by Mitsu anymore, they can rebuild them for $1000, but no warranty.
I did read that there was two capacitiors to replace that would fix the checkerboard. But they were about the pinhead size to replace. Took a while to find, but simply numbers on the board, next to a dot which was the failed capacitor. It's been almost a year so not sure exactly which caps they were. If you find, or really want me to relook it up, I can, and if you get them fixed and the TV works afterwards, I may be able to salvage my huge paper weight! :)
I just haven't had the drive to fix it, let alone know who could.
Good luck!
Which board did you replace the caps on to eliminate the checkerboard?
I never got rid of the checkerboard. That was the last step I got to.
If I remember correctly the wo parts mentioned here: "Tile or block pattern replace D8F00 and D8F01 part # 264P828010, also replace C8F26 and C8F29 part # 141P148000 (1 uFD, 25 V) on the FMT PCB (part # 930B924002)." are the microscopic ones. I wasn't sure how to replace those.
I am going to do some more research and also order the parts. If i figure out how to replace them I will let you know. I got sidetracked on other projects for a while, but I will be back at it next week.
Gracewolf, that would be great. My tv has been sitting in my basement forever, and today of all days is one of those "large stuff dump days" and my wife wants us to get rid of it! I'm holding out! :)
I'll look into seeing if I can find someone that can replace those parts too.
