50" Toshiba Projection TV picture Distorted

Hello All,

I have a 50" Toshiba Projection TV that has about 6" of the top squished down and about 15" of the bottom pushed up.

It started with only about 3" of the picture on the bottom pushed up and sometimes no distortion at all. But now it seems to be getting worse.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wes

If you have any tv experience

If you have any tv experience and soldering skills then you can change the Vertical output IC along with the B+ capacitor off the seep power supply. That should fix your problem as Ive done alot of these repair in the home. You can find it easly find the capacitor after you change the IC by looking at what the IC starts with such as !C400 or IC 500, the capacitor in sweep power supply circuit will start with the same number such as C400,C500 ect. But please there is alot of Hi Voltage inside this set so if your not sure take the set into the repair shop or have them come out and pick up the set, unless you can convince them to bring the IC, and capacitor, with them as I used to do when I had my shop. Very few projection sets were pulled in. But I dont know anyone these days that does that. Good Luck

Thanks Techman,

Thanks Techman,

I have experience soldering as I work with Computers and Servers at my job. I deal with high voltage in PC monitors.

How long would you suggest leaving the TV unplugged to discharge the capacitor?

And where would I find the parts you suggested?

Thanks again,

Wes

You can discharge any

You can discharge any capacitors by shorting across them with a three to ten watt 20 to 30 ohm resistor. You should be able to locate the Vertcale IC as it will be an inline package and on a metal heatsink. But please remeber that you should find the B+ feed capacitor and change that as well. Remeber TV saftey. maybe read this just as a reminder before you get started http://www.techlore.com/article/14476/ and you should be able to get the parts at http://www.partstore.com . I would have looked but you didnt post a model # good luck

I didn't have the model

I didn't have the model number handy when I first submitted.
It is Model # TZ50V51.

I looked at partstore.com and there are 426 parts listed. Would you mind telling me how those 2 parts would be listed?

Thanks again Techman,
Wes

Hello, I have a Toshiba 61H71

Hello, I have a Toshiba 61H71 projection TV 61" that just went whack, the red has gone concave and when you try to fix the convergence the red and blue boxes dont line up any longer.. not sure about exact inches but it sounds similar to the above problem. Can you let me know if this is the same issue or if you have heard of mine. It actually looks like everything is in 3-D. :( Thanks !!

missdirect, no sorry to say

missdirect, no sorry to say its not the same problem. As it sounds like to me you have a convergence falure, and it is probably one of the two convergence IC's in the set. When you have it repaired make sure they replace both the convergence IC's one for the Blue horizontal and vertical and one for the red horizontal and vertical, as if one went bad, for sure in a month or so the other will go bad. Now there are no user serviceable parts inside this set for you to replace so thats why i recomend HIGHLY that byou call in a pro to assist you in this repair.  Wish i had better news for you. Good luck

Hello,

Hello,

I still need some help.

I have searched all through partstore.com for which IC is the Vertical Output IC and which capacitor is the B+ Capacitor or where the Seep Power Supply is.

Can some one shed some light on this for me?

Thanks,

Wes

ok My friend, I dont have a

ok My friend, I dont have a schematic diagram for this set but it is available from lots of sources on line as a PDF.  Check out here to see if they will supply on for you. http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/proj/TZ50...

I have purchased a service

I have purchased a service manual that includes a schematic, it has part numbers listed, no names as far as I can tell. I can send you a copy if that would be any help.

Thanks again,

Wes

Yes!  For sure if you have a

Yes!  For sure if you have a PDF and I'll let the site e-mail.  That would be great.

Ok wwilson, we have it! The

Ok wwilson, we have it! The IC your looking for is labeled Q301 on the deflection board The part Number is LA7833S and cost about $11.50. The capacitor your looking for is right next to the Hi Voltahe transformer, and is labeled C310, the toshiba part number is 24669222, but its a just a 2200MFD capacitor rated at 50Volts DC. Now please be very carefull unsoldering as you dont want to distroy any pads on this set. and also beware, some manufacturers have printed circuit traces on the top side of the boards. Good luck and let us know how you did. Oh and if you see any dryed up solder points, after your done replacing the IC and the Capacitor, it wouldnt hurt to touch those up as well.

Thank you, I will let you

Thank you, I will let you know!

go to tvrepairkits.com

go to tvrepairkits.com/helpdesk and post a few pictures of what the set looks like on the screen

I'm having the same green

I'm having the same green distortion at the bottom, same model. The convergence was slightly off, but upon slightly aligning the red/blue in the convergence menu, I returned to a distorted green image at the bottom of the screen. I've worked as a tv repair tech in the past, this is a friends sat which I have no schematics on. It seems odd that red and blue convergence seems to be working flawlessly yet the reference green is distorted only on the bottom and only after altering a menu item. There are no manual green adjustments, thoughts?
