My Hitachi projection color TV 43FDX01B is now showing a distorted image with the upper side pulled down in the middle, forming a downward C curve and making TV viewing impossible. I tried to do convergence adjustment, but the vertical white line couldn't be pulled up to match the vertical red line. There's a 2-inch gap between the two vertical lines. Please help me trouble-shoot this. Thanks a lot.
I am having the same problem. My TV is about 4 1/2 years old. This seems to be a common problem with this model at this age. Hope someone can offer info.
I've got a similar problem with my Hitachi 43FDX01B. The red and green screens are fine, but the blue screen appears to have lost it's pincushion correction signal from the convergence circuitry. The picture is close to okay on the left side but get worsetoward the left. If anyone has solved a similar problem some insight would be welcome! Thanks.
Sorry to have to tell all of you folks, the convergence amps.(IC's) are weak or bad altogether. This is a pretty common problem with most tube type projection sets. This is generally not something an end user should attempt without the proper tools and training, as a tv set is not the place to experiment. These projections can hold 32,000 volts on the picure tubes. Also all the parts are soldered into place. So if you dont have the experience. Please seek out a pro to assit you with this repair. If you do have some experience then you should replace both of the STK type amp. IC's for the convergence at the same time. Also maybe, if the set does'nt work properly after you replace the IC'S, a fuseable resistor thats sometimes located around the IC's or off the power supply feed that supplys voltage to the amps. could be open. You may want to read an article posted here about this subject of self repairing a device. Theres also lots of other really good stuff here to read as well that may give you all a little insight on this matter. Good Luck http://www.techlore.com/article/10602/
Techman:
Thanks for the info - it should prove quite helpful. I've sent off for the service information and after it arrives I'll try to locate the amps you've described (and the fuses) and try to eliminate this problem.
As an aside, I HAVE had some experience in television repair, though it was some years ago (1976 to 1980), so the safety and the solderingwill be no problem.
Again , thank you for the info !

No Problem Gil. Please do get back with us when you get the info and find the convergence IC'S. But remember to replace both of the convergence amps. at the same time. If you need any more assistance please feel free to ask anytime. Good Luck
Gentlemen;
(and others) I finally received the information that I'd ordered and examined the schematic. There was a resistor marked as RK54 that had gotten HOT - so hot that the color bands were unreadable (hence the need for technical information!). It turned out to be a 1.5 ohm 1watt which I replaced and hoping against hope turned the set on. Voila! It worked! I'm seldom that lucky and seldom have a repair that inexpensive.Thanks to 'techman' for his insight and I hope this info MIGHT be of help to some others of you out there.
Thanks Gil for getting back to us. Im glad you got it working , as that is a rare occassion that just a resistor fried. It is not impossible as I have too had just resistors go bad in a convergence circuit but one off the iC's are probably pulling alittle too much current , so if it happens again replace them(the IC's). Again thanks and Good Luck
Hi Gil!
I have the same hitachi as you do, with the exact same problem:
The Blue crosshatch is off by about 2 inches or so. And there is a blue c curve on the bottom, and a yellow c curve along the top.
Where did you order the tech info from? I'd like to fix this myself.
Thanks!
The service manual is available HERE Let us know how you make out with this repair.
Hi,
I also have the 43FDX convergence issue(blue gun only) discussed in this forum. Can someone help me by answering question below;
1. Which pcba has the convergence amp IC's and resistor(physical location) inside case.
2. The component ID numbers on the silk screen. The resistor id documented so far is RK54.
3. How long should I let the TV stand un-plugged to be sure all the high voltage caps. are fully discharged.
My TV is nearly 8 years old and I don't feel like spending $400 for a board swap when I only need a couple of components.
Thanks for the help!
I am not really sure what the componet numbers are my friend, but they are large, and black in color, with STK and a few numbers on them, most likely 392-### They will be about 3" by 2" big. They stand up against a large heat sink, or what looks like a large piece of metal. To repair this yourself, you will for sure need to know how to solder and unsolder on Printed circuit boards. You should also invest in a service manual, as you might have addition troubles in the sweeo power supply or some of the associated componets. Gooe luck with this repair, and let us know how you made out with this repair.
To those with convergence issues with the Hitachi 43FDX01B - my fix last year was only temporary - if you consider 5 months temporary.
The problem reared it.s ugly head again - and I found that with a judicious use of force - smacking it - on the left side of the cabinet, I could set down to an evening's viewing. Sometimes, it required two or three smacks and, of course, the problem was getting worse with time.
At this point, my better half was getting set to spend the money on a new TV - which wasn't really in the budget. So I grabbed the soldering iron and decided to go to work. ( I really should mention at this point that if I moved the heat sink that the STK amps were located on that the picture would return to normal, indicating that the amps were OK.)
After freeing the ckt. board - which is no mean feat - and securing it in place - and please be careful for you kids who might try this at Home - I resoldered ALL the connections on the underside of the board - I think my wife thought I had completely lost it at THIS point.
I have been very happy with the results and so has my Darling wife ! So Far the fix has been successful - hope this can be of some use to you folks out there !
Yep, bad solder connections are a big issue with any TV set. Anytime you need to hit a set to get it to work(and I highly do not recommend that way to fix someting) There are most likely poor solder connection on the circuit board. Gil in GA, Thanks for the feedback.
I also have a Hitachi 43DX01B. I am not anywhere nearly advanced as you guys here on the post, so please bear with me. A couple of weeks ago I started to have convergence problems. I read online how to access the
Todd Chandler, Post an e=mail address, I will send you all the info you need for this TV set. Do not Play with the service menu yet!!!!
i have hitachi 43fdx01b i had problems with the color lining up had it fixed and when i got it home and hooked up there is agreen swoop across the bottom any help please
Hey Guys, I have a similar problem with a twist. My blue and red are out of alingment with a noticable sine curve starting on the right where the picture is good (at least in the center of the screen) to very noticably off on the left hand side. When there is white captioning on the screen the sine curve is very noticable with the 3 colors completely seperating. The kicker is that when I do a convergence test everything looks great. I have downloaded the maintenance manual and will print off the Schematics tomorrow at work but any help would be appreciated. Could this be the convergence amps? I have my doubts though as both the red and the blue seem to have failed at the exact same time.
You want assistance email me at [email protected] please!!!!!

hey guys i have a 43fdx01b the red and blue convergence are fine. but the green is out of focus going downward
