To everyone that gets a new

To everyone that gets a new light engine. There are foam air filters that filter the air just before it goes into the light engine. On the origenal V500 series this filter is round and on the bottom of the light engine. This one is impossible to get to to clean. on the replacement light engine it is right in back facing the back of the set so it can be removed and cleaned if you take the back of the set off. This should be done every year as preventive maintanance. Every failed engine that I have replaced had a very plugged up filter from dust in the air. I now clean mine twice a year with the hopes of keeping my replacement light engine running in my 50V500. The quality of every replacement engine was like new. looked like new and performed like new! Thanks Hitachi for me and all my customers also! Al G.

My new light engine arrived

My new light engine arrived on schedule . Cost $150.00 only . TV is like new. The guy showed me the old compared to the new . It is the chamber that houses it they rebuilt (added more ventilation.) The actual light engine itself inside is new.  Quick and cheap , no arguments. Happy to be Canadian!

Hope it lasts!

I have a 4 year old 42V517.

I have a 4 year old 42V517. Have suffered for the past year with yellow/green blobs. Two weeks ago, the lamp went. Replace it, but the blobs remained. Now know that a new engine is needed. This morning, 5 days after replacement, the new lamp blew. This is getting costly.

very common problem with

very common problem with these sets and ,How do you know the lamp is bad, send it back for a new one! Also contact Hitachi and tell them you have the color blob problem and you know that they have taken care of this for other owners of the set with bad light engines. You may need to insist and ask for a supervisor or manager and if still nothing persistence is the key, write to them as many times as you can and also call them daily to complain. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the response. I

Thanks for the response. I knew the bulb went when during operation, I heard a pop and the television shut off with the tell-tale red lamp warning light blinking. I have yet to remove it but will this afternoon. The original light showed clear evidene (pieces of glass and filiment in the lamp) and since the same thing happened then Isuspect I find the same with this. Next call - Hitachi.

This lamp does not have a

This lamp does not have a filament as it is not that type of lamp. It is more like a sodium lamp, that is why it gets very hot. I would still return it as a new light engine does not include a new lamp!GOOD LUCK!

Just a note to all: Keep an

Just a note to all: Keep an eye on the Hitachi lawsuit. A year ago, my Sony digital camera quit working. I called Sony, and was told it was a bad chip and for $110 plus shipping, they'd fix it. For that amount, I'd buy a new camera. So I went on-line and looked up class lawsuits involving Sony. Sure enough, many other people had the same problem. I looked up the lawsuit and in fine print at the bottom of the page was an offer by Sony (in concurrance with the suit)to call a certain number to get the camera fixed and shipped free. I did so and in about two weeks I had my camera back - still works. This also demonstrates how the tech departments don't know or won't provide the free options made possible by such lawsuits. The Sony deal was closed out within a year after the settlement, so keep watching the Hitachi case.

My 50v715 has gone blue. No other colors work when trying any input. I switched cables out and sources...same thing.

The weird thing is the menu looks perfect. I was told by Hitachi that this means the color engine isn't bad.

Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks,
Dantimdad

You don't need to. All I did

You don't need to. All I did yesterday was call Hitachi and tell them I knew about the lawsuit and they agreed to let me have a service center call them for the part and install it. I have to pay $225 for labor. Dropping the TV off today.

Mine is done! YEAH! The picture is better than before the problem started!

Granted, it took 9 weeks to get the part in but I am happy.

Anyone, in any state is entitled to this settlement. DO NOT LET HITACHI TELL YOU DIFFERENTLY!

you need to stay on Hitachi

you need to stay on Hitachi behind do not give up if you want to get a new TV SET tell them!!! in a letter explain how your entire family uses a lot of Hitachi products and against your research you decided to go with the Hitachi TV instead of the other manufacturer. And how you were happy when your TV was repaired a year ago as it was a major repair and now it needs the same repair again!!! Good Luck

Ok....I have 50V500 with red

Ok....I have 50V500 with red smear. HIT certified technician told me (and a previous post confirms this) the problem is a colored (red) filter melted over the lens. Need to replace the LE. We're far from TV junkies here, set is almost 6 yrs old.....shouldn't this set last longer?

I spent so much time evaluating sets for picture quality...this smear issue realy irks me.

Anyway, I will push for a replacement LE from HIT (technician said it's about $300) and offer to pay for labor (approx $400) which includes cleaning....although being mechanically inclined I'd love to do this myself!?

Question is: How do I know I'll be getting a (better) quality, new LE?

Face it Hitachi - at $700 to fix, expect your old customers to buy something new.....from Sony or Samsung!

I have a Hitachi model

I have a Hitachi model 60VS810 the picture is getting darker can this be the light engine? I have already replaced the lamp.

I have the 50v715 and now I have a bunch of white and yellow stipes on the TV. Could this be the colour wheel going bad?

Also, should I be able to hear the thing turn? The TV has gone very quiet recently...

I've got a 50v715. I had the light engine replaced once, just inside the warranty period when I got banding. It developed a color band top and bottom on the screen.

Over Thanksgiving, a family member pointed out the yellow splotch on the screen, and I discounted it.

I just connected the Wii to it, and HOLY COW! Look at the big yellow spot.

Thinking it was about the time that the bulb should be quitting, I decided to do a quick google search first... and to my surprise, it's (unfortunately) not the bulb.

I watched 'em replace the first LE... it's not pretty. It was a complete break-down and took 2 people.

If an LE is that expensive, why not offer that as a credit for a new (non-RP) TV?

You could certainly point this out to the Hitachi customer service dept??

Would love to know how I can join or look at the class action lawsuit in Dallas. I too have a $4000, 60v500A and the crummy light engine failure after only 3 years. Any help would be appreciated.

Yep me too, my 50V500 was bought in december of 03. Guess I was lucky light engine lasted til 06. It was replaced under warranty, but now I have the infamous blue dots and complete blue picture light engine #2 will be required to watch a tv where every one doesn't look like a smurf. Hitachi says they look at every complaint on a case by case basis. My problem is no records of previous service since service company only keeps records for 1 yr, So now I am trying to convince Hitachi this is the second time light engine has gone out. I would also like to join the lawsuit if someone can post contact info other than just U.S. Attorney it would be greatly appreciated. Hitachi no longer sells a rear projection LCD, wonder why.
