Hey,
I have a small child fast approaching the crawling/toddling stages. I have power strips all over the place. What is a good approach to child proofing them. Those outlet plugs don't seem sufficient. Also I have a rat's nest of interconnects between the TV,DVD,DVR and the stero components. What is a good solution for those ?

Child proofing the power strips and the interconnects
I've used black wire wraps to keep wires in control. They're like a long flexible tube that is cut all the way down. You open it and shove the wires in. A few of these really help keep things neat looking.
Not sure what else you can do about the power strips. Outlet plugs really do seem to be the best solution. They go in very tight and are a pain to get out, so use those on every open outlet and the kids should be safe until they're old enough to know not to stick forks in them.
I think outlet plugs and the best and cheapest solution. However, I did see a new kind of outlet cover in a restaurant that goes over the entire outlet (both plugs), but it's turned on an angle to cover the real outlets. The way that you use the outlet is to put the plug into the fake outlet and turn it until it goes into the real outlet. This might be a little extreme and require a bit of handywork, but is another alternative.
