From CamCorder onto PC , Panasonic VDR-D100EB

This is my first post so please excuse me if this is in the wrong section or has been already answered elsewhere.
I have just bought one of these DVD CamCorders and having taken a short "Film" want to download it to my PC for editing (Just a trial to see how it's done). But I can't do anyhting other than play the various scenes ("Chapters" on Windows Media Player). I've tried to run it unfinalised and also Finalised with no success. If anyone can let me know how to transfer these from the DVD and edit them it would be very much appreciated. As you can tell I'm new to all this so please keep any replies as simple as possible. Kind regards, Bernard.

Bernard, welcome to TechLore.

Bernard, welcome to TechLore. Hopefully, we can help you out. According to the manual for your Camcorder (which may be found here, you need to use a DVD-RAM disc in order to edit your DVDs on a computer. If you're not sure what that is, read Understanding the Different Types of Recordable DVDs, a great article from Matt Whitlock.

You will need to install their software called DVD-MovieAlbumSE in order to edit your DVD on your computer. The instructions for this are in your manual above. Start reading on page 110.

Post back with any more questions that you may have and good luck!

Ron, This now becomes alot

Ron, This now becomes alot clearer - thank you. Where do I get "their software called DVD-MovieAlbumSE" from? As no software was supplied by the shop with the Camcorder. Your help is very much appreciated. Bernard

It is specific to Panasonic

It is specific to Panasonic and should come with the camcorder. I would be VERY surprised if it didn't. Double-check your box again. It should say it is included with your documentation at least. You can take it back to the store and have them open another box to see if it's in there. Not sure what else you can do.

This is one of the reasons why it's better to buy a camcorder that uses a more standard mini-DV tape. Of course, hindsight is 20-20...

Ron - thank goodness for

Ron - thank goodness for people like you, who have already fallen off that particular wall - we'll be checking boxes and revisting the shop soon.   Do you recommend that we approach the supplier - Jessops, or Panasonic direct?  Many thanks. Bernard.

Not sure how lucky you'll be

Not sure how lucky you'll be with the shop, but it might be worth a try. You can also try to contact Panasonic directly via the web at:
