Hello,I have a Gateway M-7315u laptop,It has a Mobile Intel (R) 4 Series Express Chipset with the Mobile Intel (R) GMA 4500M,also known as Intel G45 Express Chipset. Do I need a High Definition Video Controller to hook up from VGA to RGB Component on a Sharp 32SF56B TV. I read the Chipset supports TV-out,composite,RGB component,S-video ,CRT,Analog.
Basically,do I have to use a converter for a VGA from the laptop to the RGB Component on the TV. The TV does not have VGA, it is digital,it has the usuall,s-video,composite,RGB component.I know the laptop supports all,but do i need a VGA to Component Transcoder and or a High Def Video Converte in order to use the laptop on the TV set. I appreciate all the help,I want to hook this up the correct way and not have any headaches!!!!! Thanks to all who helps. Mark
If your only options are component video, S-video and composite on the TV, and your laptop only has a VGA output, then yes. You will need a VGA to component video transcoder to make this connection directly. If your laptop has an S connector, you can use that.
Matt,my laptop also has HDMI also,any way I could use that to the RGB Component hook-up to the TV set? I have Composite ,Component RGB, and S-Video and the TV. This is a digital TV set,no LCD or any fancy stuff. So how about HDMI to RGB Component???
Have HDMI on my 50 inch Plasma, looks great on that set but my boys have there Xbox cranking all the time,never get to use it. Let me know,Thanks for the first reply,Mark
I have both VGA and HDMI on my laptop,my Laptop supports TV-out,it is the Vista Premium,,64bit version.Basically what would be the best hook-up for a laptop to a TV without the VGA connection.Have RGB and composite and s-video.
Or do I not need a converter since my laptop supports all with the G45 Chipset with the Mobile Series 4 Chipset. SO CONFUSED<
I haven't seen any converters to take HDMI to component... at least not any that I believe to work.
Also, just because the chipset supports it, it doesn't mean that your vendor is taking advantage of it. Not all chipset features are in use on everything.
VGA to component or S-video would be ideal route if you want to continue using this TV, but depending on the size of the TV you want to use this on, it may be better to divert the cost of the converter towards a new set that supports HDMI.
Matt,my wife and I decided to go with a newer TV,there are many sets that are getting cheaper by the day. I want to thank you for your time,now at least I understand that you will need a converter any time you want to hook up your PC to a older TV set with just the component and composite and s-video hook-ups.Many websites sell you the cable and make you believe you just plug and play,apparently you have to do some research before you just buy a cable.This is why I wanted to ask a expert before i bought anything,being new at this area of learning on hooking up TV sets to PC's.
The TV is a newer Sharp 32 inch TV set,fantastic pic through DISH NETWORK satellite.I think a 40 or so inch would work great with the PC hooked up. Thanks again Matt,now I understand what I would have needed. Thank you again,Mark,,
