JVC GR-SXM250u Video Cassette Recorder - Will not work. Keeps saying to remove the lens cap. The lens cap is off and nothing is blocking the lens. This happens whether on battery or AC power. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The Lens cap thingy. I have seen this problem 6 times already and it has turned out 4 times to be a stuck iris assy in the lens of the camcorder and I know how to dissasemble the lens so i can repair most of them, BUT they(JVC )does'nt recommend that type of repair. JVC wants you to replace the entire lens assy. But it cost too much to do with labor. It also cost a bit to take apart as its like two to three hours of labor involved. Also I have found the other 2 times to have those small pan caps to be bad on the ccd processor PCB. ! I was able to fix, the other was leaky and messed up the PCB. Sometimes if you tap on the side of the lens the iris will open BUT not to hard and this is not a fix, just to see if the shutter is sticking. Techman
