Sony wega 36" trinitron shutdown

My sony wega 36" trinitron is about 7 years old and shut down this morning, completely out of the blue. Never have had a problem with it before. Can't turn it back on. It's definitely plugged into a live socket. Help

Have you tried the old,

Have you tried the old, unplug it for three minutes and plug it back in approach?

Did anything out of the ordinary happen last night? Bad storm? Power outage? Anything?

No storms or out of the ordinary things happened last night. Unplugged for 3 minutes, still nothing. No front panel lights even. Is it a fuse problem, I'm almost thinking powersupply may be dead. Any other ideas? thanks

Unfortunately there's just

Unfortunately there's just not enough information to come up with a solid theory. Anything is a stab in the dark. It COULD be a fuse, the power supply, a dead circuit, broken switch, bad IC, etc. You'll have to check everything yourself or have a tech come out to narrow it down further. That's the hard part about remote diagnosis. When external factors and setup issues are eliminated, you have to actually be there to figure out the internal factors. Good Luck, and let us know what happens.

Just tonight my 4 month old

Just tonight my 4 month old KV-36FS120 quit. It has power but the degauss circuit doesn't kick in and the tube doesn't light. I'm thinking an interlock is preventing the HV from coming up or something more basic in the power supply. There is a "Standby/Timer" LED on the front that is blinking at different rates depending how long I hold in the power button. Does anyone know if this is some sort of POST code?

BTW I tried the unplugging procedure with no positive results.

Thanks

From what I've read on the

From what I've read on the site, a blinking power button is normally some kind of code that a service guy can use to diagnose a problem with the TV. I imagine yours is no different.

Well after waiting a week for

Well after waiting a week for service guy to show up, it turns out it is the HV supply. I wasn't home when he showed so I didn't get any particulars. The part wasn't in stock so I have to wait until this coming Wednesday to get back up and running. You'd think they would keep those things in stock, sheesz.

I have a sony wega 36"

I have a sony wega 36" trinitron that once I turn it off I cant turn it back on. If I let it sit over night and plug it back in it will turn on by itself. When it doesnt come back on the stand by light will flash 7 times. I am trying to narrow down the part or problem so I can maybe fix it myself. If anyone can help I would appreciate it and merry christmas.

Seven blinks - High voltage

Seven blinks - High voltage shutdown. The high voltage has exceeded 33k and the unit goes immediately into safety shutdown. Check power supply regulation and horizontal circuits. You are probly going to need a manual for this set.  Since I do not have a model number, there are some common breakdowns in the High Voltage circuits in this set.  One is the flyback transformer.  Another is a small high voltage capacitor in the sweep corrction circuit.  If you have no solid state repair experience with TV sets, play it safe and call in a tech to assist you in this repair.  Good Luck, and please let us know how you make out with this set.

The model number is KV

The model number is KV-36HS500.  The tv will not come on at all now and the red light flashes 6 times now.

The 7-blink problem has been

The 7-blink problem has been addressed in another thread as well.  There is a cap that goes open in a high voltage circuit (C6532) which needs to be replaced.  This is not a repair that shouldbe done by a novice.

The 6 blinks indicates a rpoblem with the 5Volt line on the A,B or M boards.  Also there could be a problem with IC504.  This is most likely not a repair that should be attempted by an untrained homeowner.  Send the above info in with the TV to a qualified repair shop.

I have also seen the

I have also seen the horizontal driver transformer have ring cracks around the terminals cause this too.

Do you know what the 4-blink

Do you know what the 4-blink problem is on a model KV-24FS100?

Since there is only in-home service in my area, I'm trying to decide if it's worth the money for an in-home service call plus parts and labor on a 6 1/2 yr old TV, or if I should just buy a new TV.

Perhaps the most common cause

Perhaps the most common cause of this is a failure of the vertical IC (TDA8172). This can be as simple as poor solder connections on the IC or a defective IC. This should be a relatively simple repair. I would suggest that you request the service folks to have an IC on hand when they arrive. This part should cost around $10-$20. Add in the local labor rate and determine whether or not you wish to have it repaired. Factor in what it would cost for a replacement as well. Note that if the picture was good quality before the failure, you should get another 5 years+ after the repair.

My tv shut down completely

My tv shut down completely after we moved it. It has been off since last Saturday, today is Wednesday. It had been playing fine all along. The remote will light up but the tv will not respond. Any suggestions? The tv is too heavy to take to a repairman.

Hello, I have a Sony

Hello, I have a Sony Trinitron, model KV32F300. A couple weeks ago, it would not turn off unless unplugged, and it would not turn on unless plugged in. When plugged, the volume display bar would appear and steadily raise from low to max until the TV was unplugged again...plugging in would restart the process. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Hi All - have plugged around

Hi All - have plugged around and thought I had the answer but alas I don't have a g-board. My sony doorstop is a KV-36FS120 - it also blinks 9 times without powering up.

I remember standing there looking at flat panels when the salesman said "Wega is the way to go"... 300lbs was not the way to go... when we move the tv comes with the house.

Anyhow - I found the manual here: http://tv.manualsonline.com/mdownloads/244b62ee-08f1-4405-b418-c9c27b8ba...

but have no clue what I am looking for. I understand on the larger models 46F the diodes are Part easy to get to and I think I'm supposed to search the large board (A Board?) anyone have a pic? Or... where these diodes are located?

I have a sone trinitiron kv-36hs500, will not turn on and standby light flashes 7 times, high voltage, is there any instructions on how to replace this or photos of unit?

I'm having the same problem,

I'm having the same problem, no start, but WILL start after it sits overnight unplugged with a KV34HS510 HD set.

When it does not start, I get degauss, hear all the relays, but no HV crackle, then get 6 blinks.

After sitting overnight unplugged, it will start immediately when plugged in.

I have experience working on TV's from back in the day at the dawn of all solid state sets with CRT's.

Can you direct me to a parts supplier?

Our Sony tv won't come on.

Our Sony tv won't come on. My son watched it this evening till 6 pm, it was working fine. We tried to switch it on at 7 pm it won't come on. Done everything. Switched it off from the mains, unplugged everything from the main, left it for 1/2 hr. I even replaced the batteries in the remote. The tv doesn't respond to the remote. It wont even go on standby with the remote. I have to use the on off button in the tv.When switched on it makes a noise as if its firing the CRT but nothing happens. There is no red blinking light either. Can someone advise what could be wrong?

Hi All,

Hi All,

Sometime ago my Sony Wega KV-86FQE did not start and was showing the 7 blinks. Solved by replacing just one of the MZC3001DB chips.

New problem now during start up (16 blinks), turning on/off again make it work only for a while (16 blinks again)â?¦

In your opinion could be the same situation?

Thanks a lot for your amazing support.

I have a Trinitron KD30XS955

I have a Trinitron KD30XS955 that was blinking 7 times and I replaced two IC's as mentioned in another thread and now it blinks 3 times when turned on. I can find little info on this and do not have a Manual.

three blinks-"B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672"
Without a manual I cannot locate T603 or R672.
