combining hours

does anyone know how to take four 1-hr recordings (mp3) format and put them together for recording to one cd, thanks royso

With a program like Audacity,

With a program like Audacity, you can merge different audio files and output them into one file, which you can then burn to a CD. Keep in mind though, that you must keep the audio compressed if you want to fit it on one disc. If you want the CD to be playable in regular CD players, you can't burn the files in MP3 or any other compressed format. CDs are limited to 74 - 80 minutes (depending on the disc) of uncompressed audio.

Thank you. I downloaded

Thank you. I downloaded audicty, Are you saying I cannot put two 40 min. audio selections on one cd. Do I have to waste the remainder of time that is on the cd. Is there another format to record the whole four hour program, actually 180 mins on two CDs. Thanks again, Royso

The trick is whether or not

The trick is whether or not that you want to be able to play the audio in a 'regular' CD player or not, that's what Matt is talking about.  You might be able to squeeze your two 40 minute recordings onto one CD, but that would be the limit.  If you compress the audio, it can fit, but you won't be able to play it, no matter what format you choose.  You would only want to do that in order to transfer to another medium (i.e. computer), not for playing.
