That sounds like a horizontal output issue, there is no silver bullet, but the horizontal output transistor or flyback transformer could be some suspects. but if it is squealing most likely the output trans is working, but again no silver bullet need to open the set up and take measurements.
thanks for your response....are you familiar with the red led code(6x 6 x??.)...any ideas on the cost?? by the way... it has gone through a couple of power fuses in the past..sounds like a fairly common thread for this model (or type) i really wanted to get another year or two outa this set (only @5yrs old)..
The manual says it is a malfunctioning ic4518 - but i know from years of experience especially with Panasonic that this is probably not your problem, especially if you are hearing squealing, i would start with the horizontal output and check the is part first.
also the fuse issue, is common, this is due to a time delay in the degause circuit, usaly changing the fuse to a 7 amp from the oringal 6.3 will help, but if you are still gettting intermittant 7 amp blowing, then the timer unit needs replced.
thanks again..for your response....yes i had already bump ed the fuse up...and had no further problems in that department...
just wanted to be a little more specific ....when i try to power up....set starts to fire up...it clicks..then just about to power on (when the screen would light normally).. it chirps (high pitch )then clicks off....then red led flashes 6x - 6..on circuit board.I.have to unplug to reset or i get nada...same results after reset....thanks again!
Yes, you are dealing with horizontal issues, the horizontal also drives the flyback transformer that generates 25,000 volts to the crt, the chirp is an overload of some kind. you need to check the horizontal output transistor and that circuit. i could be the flyback it's self or a related component. There is no magic bullet, it is a trouble shoot at this point.
My pany (same model) did the same thing. I changed out the horizontal out transistor and it made it about 2 wks and same problem. transistor is bad again. Could the fly back transformer be the problem or just a weak part? Any suggestions on how to test the fly back?
