Magnovox PTV630 convergence issue

First of all thank you to everyone who has posted on these issues, it was great to find a site with so much information.

I have a Magnavox PTV630 made in 1994 that was just given to me by a relative. The set worked great (barring some lightening of the picture) before it was brought to my house. Once I got it inside I noticed a bit of offset of the colors and a bit of blue hazing on the right hand side of the screen. I also noticed a bit of a amber cast to the left and right hand side of the screen. I have the original schematics for the set and the instructions from the factory for the green adjustment (crosshatch or template), geometry, and the other convergence settings.

From reading the forums here I have so far come to the conclusion that the fluid will need to be changed (due to the amber cast and lightening of sections of the screen) and the convergence is most likely out of adjustment due to moving the set. I set out to adjust the convergence from the service menu (062597, Menu) and after the first couple of adjustments (numbers 2 and 3 on the menu) it looked great barring the slight haze mentioned earlier. The colors lined up well and I was off to watch a movie. After the movie was done I figured I should do the rest of the adjustments and this is where the trouble started.

After finishing the adjustments I noticed a couple of new issues. The first and most obvious issue is the fact that the screen now has a wave to it running vertically down the right hand side of the screen. The other issues I noticed while adjusting is that the top adjustment line, (the convergence adjustment shows one cross at a time in a line extending across the screen) the third in the series for each set of adjustments, is not visible. I can see a slight coloration at the very top of the screen that moves after each time I click menu to go to the next cross so I know it is there.

Well I have no idea how to be able to view this top line, and if viewing it would even fix the problems I have now. I did go into the C2 menu and try to adjust the horizontal position of the the screen but it did not really move it down.  I do not have the template or a signal generator to adjust the original green so I think all of the others are now off due to the green.

Is there a way to simply reset the TV to factory defaults possibly through a jumper on the motherboard? Is there any other advice you might give me to get this running again? I have no doubt the set is just fine as I noted above, until the last couple of adjustments to the service convergence menu the picture was just about perfect barring what looked to be dirty cooling fluid.

Thank you for your time reading and responding to this post.

Thank you for the advice. The

Thank you for the advice. The real problem though is the green is out of adjustment now so I do not have a good reference point to converge the other colors. I have not been able to find the template online. Any ideas on the template? Also the top row of adjustments is just barely off of the top of the screen making them unusable. Have you ever seen this or have any advice for correcting that problem?

i have never been able to get

i have never been able to get extreme top and sides perfect without taking a lot of time and effort to the adjustments

Ok so I take it you don't

Ok so I take it you don't have any ideas on where to find a template to simply line it up like the factory manual says and therby return it to factory specs. Thank you for your time and advice.

I never used one I simply use

I never used one I simply use a piece of string and measure on the front where dead center is. never ever used a template. we techs do not always follow the ,manuals even the factory authorized ones but you can go to help @ tvrepairkits.com and ask if he has one you can borrow but he might want to get a nice deposit as there are a lot of crooks out there that borrow things on our trust and never return things!!! I've lost a few things that way but because of a few bad apples and will never lend out things again!!!!
Larry Dillon Good Luck!!! by the way that is dead center up and down as well as side to side use a cross string to use it that way

Ok I understand. The only

Ok I understand. The only problem is that there are a series of crosses that appear in sequence across the set during the service mode green adjustment, not just one dead center. User mode, with the one cross dead center, only adjusts red and blue, not green. Since red and blue are aligned to green in a series of adjustments the green is critical and the rest of the adjustments mean little without that proper foundation. I suppose I could count the green crosses and then do the set dimension division to come up with my own version of a string based template.

I hear you about not being able to always trust users. I have been in IT for over 20 years now and have done everything from factory service of laptops to corporate network design and maintenance and have found the same issues. The company I own and run now has even been sued a couple times by companies trying to get something for nothing. I have not been beat in court yet because I run an honest and ethical business and document all of my transactions thoroughly.

Keep your head up Larry and once again, thank you for the advice :)

oh always do man as if you

oh always do man as if you let a few scummers beat you down you are not in control of life then but I have been sued myself several times when I was in my own electronic repair business but have won everyone as I am a stickler for keeping good records!!!!
