Gugu, You can read of our issues in this thread if you wish. At present, the tv and main board is at the repair shop for the 3rd time. They are checking to see if the main board went out again, after only 30 days, if so it will be fixed free of charge. If it is another issue the $$$ are on us, however, we will not be putting any more money into this. So, my answer is that twice our issue has been the main board. The first time it worked for about 3 1/2 years and this 2nd go around only a month. I will do an update when I hear from the service tech, but, in the meantime we have purchased a new LCD, Sony KDL46VL160 for 1397.00 at Sam's Club. We really loved our Aquos but we LOVE this new Sony. You cannot believe the picture and you can tweek it to your heart's desire. It helps take the sting off our other situation. Also, it is great to have a 46" fit in the same space as the 37" did because of the side speakers. I guess we have decided to move on, haven't we? I will update when the verdict is in.
yes that is a shame with these LCD sets now days as a lot of them go to the dump these days because they get so darn much to repair them it just does not seem right and the repair shops are crying that the business is not any good any longer well if they were reasonable with the board repairs them maybe so many of them would not go to the dump????? now if you have to replace a board that is a different story, that is the fault of the manufacturers for charging so darn much for new boards it just is not right!!!!!!!

See, this is what I am talking about; Larry the expert said it is the inverter and Sava swapped the main board and inverters but he thinks it was the main board.
I would really like to buy a new tv, but 1500 -2000 is still a big expense for me especially now. On the other hand from what I have read there is no guaranty that if I spend 200$ on a used main board it will fix my problem. Used inverters are each 60$ x 4 = 240$. Looks like it is a gamble and to be honest I do not know what to choose.
Thanks for your replays anyway.
that is why it is not the best way to go when it comes to repairing a LCD OR Plasma set as a DIY as dealers or most authorized ones have complte board kits and can figure out witch boarsd is bad without laying out big bucks to buy a board just to try!!!
Larry
Gugu, try doing this and see if it comes on. Unplug both the AVC and the panel (use a power strip to make this easier by just turning off the strip and back on again). With the AC removed, press the "MAIN POWER" on. Next, press and hold the "VOL (--)" and "INPUT" at the same time. Finally, plug the AC power back in and the set should come on. If it does come back on it might last anywhere from a few minutes to a few days. If it doesnÂ’t come on and you still have sound but no video (black screen) put a flash light against the screen, if itÂ’s the inverters you should be able to see some video with the flash light. I had 2 different techs check my unit and they confirmed it was the mainboard with the part number I provided. If you find a used board, just make sure they will take it back if it doesnÂ’t work. Where are you located?
Thanks Sava.
I used to do that trick vol- and input and I was able to watch tv until I had to turn it off. It was fine for some time but now I only hear sound - no more picture - black screen even though I flip it 15- 30 times. From time to time I was able to see a technician menu too.
I never checked if there is any video with flashlight though. I will inspect it tonight.
I already checked with discount-merchant.com for used main board and they told me to call back in two weeks as they are all sold out. They told me that since I am not a technician I will not be able to return the product:(.
I live in Barrington, Il.
You can try your luck at shopjimmy.com and see if they have it (again find out if it doesn't work if they will take it back). The reason I asked where you live is because i would be willing to purchase the tv from you becasue I have one that has a busted screen. Good luck nad let me know how it turns out.
Sava - I called shopjimmy.com and they do not have any in stock now. I signed up to be notified by an email when this product will be back in stock. They are way cheaper then discount-merchent.com and they have 90 days warranty.
I guess I will have to wait now.
Considering my address are you still interested in buying my set?
If yes, how much would you be able to pay for it?
I don't know. Hopefully he can find the part that he needs and fixes it. If it's the wrong part or a non working used part maybe he can return and it will only cost him shipping. As in my end I would scrap it for future use, just that i believe shipping will be a little costly because of the size. Only time will tell.
And the same thing happened when I turned my TV on this morning. Red blinking light, then red light. Unfortunately I bought my TV in 2003, so the 5-year is long gone. Thanks for all the education about how nobody can get theirs fixed, so I'll go for the new set...
Jaanthud, good call to get a new set. I think once the Aquos begins to have these issues it's time to move on. The final verdict on our set, from the fall of 2009, was to scrap it. The repair shop actually paid us 125.00 to scrap it out. The Sony KDL46VL160 Bravia that we bought continues to perform beautifully. (Knock on Wood;) We love it!!
we developed same issue in same model. called sharp, they diagnosed and called a 'power supply' problem. they helped resolve and set now working ....for now.... at no cost!

Larry, no problem. I didn't think that everyone wanted to receive a bunch of emails for nothing.
yep unless you will take that, What do you think it is worth as is???
