Dell Inspiron 1150 to TV

Hi,

I have a Dell inspiron 1150. There is no S-video, but there is a VGA out. I bought a VGA out to TV in cord (S-video or regular video connector to TV). I tried different resolution connecting, but not able to get the image on my TV.

I use Function key+F8 to toggle mode but not working on my new Sony HDTV.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Raj

Can you provide the information on the "cord" you purchased? Maybe a picture or link to the site you purchased it?

Hi Matt,

Hi Matt,

It's a VGA to S-Video/RCA(yellow) connector cord. Here's the link to see a photo.

I have tried rebooting with the connection on (both with RCA and S-video). I am getting some signal on my TV, but the desktop is showing up 4 times, black/white, fuzzy.

It seems like more NTSC/PAL signal deal, but can't verify it. Mine is a brand new SONY HDTV!!

Thanks for helping me out.

Rajesh

I've never heard of one of these cables actually working. As far as I know, you can't drop RGB signals to composite, S-video, or component without a transcoder. If anyone has done it, I'd love to know how.

If you want to connect your computer's VGA output to a television's S-video or composite video connection, there are specialized devices that will do this for you. These little boxes do a lot to make this process a whole lot easier. I've provided a link, image, and information about the product you need on page 2 of the "How To Connect a Computer to Your TV" article.

Good luck.

I do have to wonder about the reviewers that complain about the dell Inspiron 1150 battery. They are probably the same guys who would buy a inspiron and complian about the mileage. I will carry my extra battery as a badge of honor. Either you get it, or you don't.

I connect my PC to my TV

I connect my PC to my TV using HDMI cable, but for some reason it is not quite working. If I change my display setting through the monitor and extend my monitor to the TV. It works fine but for some reason it does not just connect to the TV by itself. Anyone can help me out.

Thanks!
